Default What is the best way to wire a JL 12w3v2 sub?

I have a JL 12w3v2 sub. Dual voice coil. What is the best way to wire it to get the loudest and best sound out of it? I will have it wired to a 500/1 JL amp. Thanks

Wire it in a parallell, which means Connect the + On one voice coil to the positive on the other voice coil, then the negative of one voice coil to the negative of the other voice coil

depends. is your sub a dual 2, 4, or 8 ohm? the 500/1 JL amp puts out the same power if your sub is wired between 1.5 ohms-4 ohms.

heres the breakdown for you:

If your sub is the dual 2 ohm model- i would wire the sub into series. this would put your sub's impedance at 4 ohms.

If your sub is the dual 4 ohm model- i would wire the sub parallel. this would keep the sub's impedance at 2 ohms.

If your sub is the dual 8 ohm model- i would wire the sub parallel. this keeps it at 4 ohms impedance

just as long as the the impedance of the sub is between 1.5 and 4 ohms you should be good.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by mikeycivic &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">its the dual 2 model</TD></TR></TABLE> Series, connect the pos.(+) of one VC to the neg.(-) of the other VC, that will leave you with a pos.(+) and a neg.(-) to connect to the amp, no it makes no diff. which pos.(+) and neg.(-) you use as long as it's one from each VC.

Hint... try connecting the pos.(+) and neg.(-) to the amp both ways, [pos.(+) to pos.(+)/neg.(-) to neg.(-) and pos.(+) to neg.(-)/neg.(-) to pos.(+)] for phasing with the rest of the system, one of the two ways will sound better to you94

He has a 12W3v2-D2, a 300W DVC2 ohm wired in series for a 4 ohm load with a 1x500W RMS amp driving it, what he will have is lots of dynamic headroom.

He has a better chance of blowing s sub if he used that amp to drive two of them, as he would be under-powered by 100W.

It is better to be over-powered then it is to be under-powered. 94

I put it in the other day, I bought a sealed qlogic box. I am VERY happy with the bass this sub produces in a coupe. Its loud, and clear. I wired the sub in series like fcm suggested and this things hits hard.
