Default S2000 Turbo Oil Return

Hey just about to install my Ultimate racing turbo kit but wanted to know where you guys tapped the oil return line on your motor. This kit says to tap the block/girdle about an inch and a 1/2 above the oil pan but id rather not tap the block and also risk shavings getting into the components in the bottom end.... I know that some may not want to tap the oil pan because under hard cornering the oil may be up against one side of the pan possibly restricting the flow of the return line from the turbo.

What has everyone else done to get around this?

i would tap the girdle, its not hard and prevents any issues with oil returns. You have to drop the pan anyway, just do it right the first time!

I'm not really sure how the ultimate kit is setup, but i just used an AN fitting setup from the turbo right into the drain plug. No back up or burning issues at all, and COmptech actually does this for their SC kits also.

I was a firm beleiver in the "above the oil level" for tapping but i guess that theory can be put to rest...At least for the S2000

Can anybody confirm that this would work???? This goes against everything I know about oil flow in a turbo and sounds like a BAD idea.

I havn't taken my car apart yet but for those of you who have tapped the girdle how did you avoid shavings getting into your crank/bottom end? I was thinking maybe a shop vac on the outside of the block while drilling but any other tips/advice?

That looks like quite the overhaul.... It holds the crank and everything!

That's why you just tap the oil pan. Does the job and easy to do with the proper tools.

Yeah it is!

Considering that's not the oil pan. That's the block girdle and main caps. I just did my oil pan last night.

I bought a J's racing baffled oil pan and just tapped the fitting right above the oil drain and had a friend tig weld in the fitting. It really didn't take long to take the pan off. I would do that if I were you.

Haha yeah I know its not the oil pan, if I didnt know that much I shouldn't even be going near my engine

I was just asking these questions because the Ultimate racing kit calls for the return line to be tapped into the girdle and I was curious to know if this is where it "Must" be installed or whether the oil pan is fine... Is there no baffle in the oem pan? I know b16's come stock with them? Anyone have a pic or dimensions of where they tapped their oil pan?

Is there any downsides if I want to use my car on the track? Or will the draining from the turbo still not be an issue?

Sorry for all the questions but I just want to do things right the first time

comptech and greddy do this becuase its easier for DIY's! It is not the ideal setup, and is a band-aid for tapping the girdle. i have friends with turbo s2k's with oil blow-by issues due to oil return placement. You may not have issues, but someone else might! Thats why I think for the little extra time it takes to drill the girdle, you could save yourself possible issues with the oil return!

if you really don't want to tap the girdle or am lazy, make sure the return line doesnt go below the tap on the pan!

drop the pan! I woudn't tap the pan either without first dropping it! Its just not worth any issues with bits of metal getting into the oil pickup and subsequently the motor! Do it right the first time!

Yeah the pan is coming off regardless, its just whether im tapping the pan itself or the girdle, im going to see if I can put some sort of apron inside the motor where im going to tap so that the shaving are restricted to one area.

the fillings will just fall down, they dont have a chance of getting near the crank etc... the aluminium is really soft so it won't take very long. Aftwards just get a shop vac and suck out the stuff etc..
