Buying A Prelude
Hi im new to the site, ive been on a few times for enquiries Im sure i had a login but last email account was hacked
. Anyway im looking to buy a prelude, i have had 2 before (BB1 & BB4), but the prelude i want to buy is listed as a 2.2 on registration documents (not sure if it was vtec or not) but it has had an engine swap to a 2.3, H23a. I'm sure its a jap import i forgot to check the chassis number
which i should have. Its going pretty cheap, has a cracked windscreen, rear window leaks simple fixes really...I plan to buy it and put a 2.2 vtec in it but not sure if, being a 2.2 in the first place and being converted to a 2.3, will i have any problems at all putting it back to a 2.2 ? i dont know if the mounts for the 2.2 and 2.3 are the same or if any serious chassis modification needed to be done to accomidate the 2.3. I got told it was done proffessionaly. But i dont wanna have to buy the car and realise im gonna have to go thruogh hell to put the 2.2 back in it. I know what many people might think "why not keep the 2.3 ?" Well the guy bought the car last year and the head gasket went and apparently siezed the engine so need a new engine anyway. I have sourced an engine 2.2 (H22a) 120k on clock though
comes complete with Gearbox, Driveshafts, P/S Pump, alternator, ECU, Loom, the whole package really. Im basicly looking for advice on what would have been carried out to convert from a 2.2 to 2.3 so i have an idea of what i need to do to get it back to a 2.2 phewww
Thanks Jason

Yeah i remember reading that topic a while ago i was tryin to look for it again, as far as my knowledge of cars goes they are all just engine/Tranny parts so im guessing its a case of a straight swap of engines, ECU and ECU loom ? I have sourced a complete engine and tranny so im thinkin the parts list you posted wont be a problem
Im not sure if my post made sense
, it made sense in my head hehe...But just to make a little more sense of it all, the car im buyin was originaly a JDM 2.2 (No idea if the original engine was a vtec or not) but had a engine swap to a 2.3 H23a which is now dead, so im plannin on switchin back to a 2.2 vtec.
So what your sayin is, switching back wont be a problem as long as i have all they parts which is basicly the complete engine and tranny ?

It be a problem if you didnt know what you were doing in the first place, while ripping a motor out.
Best bet is to just do it and dont think about it too much. You have to get your hands dirty at one point or another.
And its not that hard to go from h23 to h22, read the list of stuff I posted earlier

Thanks for the advice, im still researching everything really before i bite off more than i can chew. ive not got a problem with gettin my hands dirty, I would like to say i know enough about cars to atleast get me through the engine swap with no problems and hopefuly the wiring wont be too much of an issue.
But if you say its not going to be a problem im sure i should be ok
thanks...
im looking to either get the car this weekend or next an the 2.2 engine next week so i can get started cant wait
thanks

At worse case, if the old 2.2 was a non-vtec, and you put in the vtec 2.2 and ecu, you may(or may not) have to run 2 wires from the ecu out to the engine. I would assume that these wires will exist in the looms on the 2.2 vtec that you are looking at, and if not there are write-ups all over the place on how to wire vtec! Good luck and have fun!
Ok I got the prelude its an Si, Chassis number is BA8, engine used to be the (F22b) 2.2 non-vtec engine, which blew, so... the previous owner put a (H23a1) 2.3 in it, now that engine is done. Im plannin on puttin a (H22a) 2.2 vtec in it Just wondering if im gonna com eacross any problems at all ?
Any suggestions ?
