Lowering Springs VS. Ground Control coilovers
Hey guys, I recently called an auto shop and they told me that it's a pain to install ground control coilovers, the rep insisted on having me sell the coilovers and buy some Swift Springs or Espelirs. He went on to say how horrible the ride quality and how people constantly switch from those ground controls to springs. I wanna hear some feedback on this. I already have the coilovers they have about 2-3k miles on them and are in perfect condition. Should I listen to the guy or stay with my ground controls and install them.
I don't like this style/way of lowering ur vehical. Cheap ricers on civics use this kinda **** to dump there rice low, sure it looks cool but ask them how confident they are taking 90 degree turns at a high rate of speed. I wouldnt use this on my old integral let alone a s2000. Get springs or real coilovers with adj dampers.
contrary to what mr black s2k said, i have heard decent things about these. there are 2 types: 1 meant for stock shocks and another meant for koni. make sure you get the right ones.
search this topic on s2ki...that's where i saw people discussing it

i have used ground control coilovers before with koni shocks(as graf mentioned) on my old delsol and it was great. the car handle really good(just dd) and i felt really confident taking high speed turns on the highway an such...
now that was on a delsol, which has a crappy factory suspension, so not sure if the ground controls will feel "good" ona higher quality suspension car as the s2000. remember thats what this cars are known for.
if i was you i would try to sell them and get either espelir asd(which i just ordered per recomendations here) or the swift springs which were also remended. only because those are known springs with great feedback from the owners.

ground-control and konis are better than any JDM coilovers, upt to a certain level.
You should use stock springs on stock shocks, and GC on Konis. As simple as that

I really don't feel like arguing...
but NOTHING is different between a GC wich has a linear rated spring and any coilover using linear springs.
the same spring rate in both of these product will result in the EXACT same ride, except that the shock will differ.
Most JDM coilovers use pretty low quality shocks...up to a certain price (and even...)

ARE ANY OF YOU GUYS USING THE NOISE STOPPERS (those brown things that wrap around one coil that come factory on tein's lowering springs) ON THE ESPELIR ASD LOWERING SPRINGS?
I say go with the Ground Controls. I have owned several sets of Full coilovers and sometimes regeted getting them over ground controls. If your not going to slam your car its the same as getting springs but you can adjust them a bit lower for a better look and still handle the same.
Some people here are on a hype. Its still just a Honda in the end. Ive seen people with M3s use Ground Controls at the track, yes with konis but I doubt this felow is going to go race on one.

There is nothing wrong with GC's. However, if you plan on using a stock shock I would rather use a less aggressive spring like espiler/swift. Do you know spring rates on you GC's?

there are tons of people that swear by the GC/Koni combo on multiple platforms. I've ran them at one point on my civic and loved it. A friend of mine also ran that on his EK for auto-x for a couple seasons. You also don't have to get shelf rate GCs if you don't want.
I see a lot of people here suggesting all these "high end" or just high cost suspension options that are honestly pointless IMO for someone who is actually racing in your basic auto-x/hpde

Indeed. Ride quality depends a big amount on your dampers as well. If you dont have the right shocks to match the springs, the car will ride like ****. The GCs seem to be of very high quality, and lots of good spring rates are available. OTS rates seem pretty legit...a little on the mild side. But good. JDM coilovers make it hard to find a good spring rate/shock combo in a lower end price range. You're probably looking at the $2000 and up club. lol...S2000...$2000. Word.
Anyway. Springs usually work pretty well on S2000s. Some work just as well as the stock shock rates for GCs since the stock shocks are pretty nice. There's probably little advantage to using a GC setup vs. a quality lowering spring setup on stock shocks. The rates for either are pretty similar.

I have been using these for over a year on stock shocks and they ride quite well. And I am very confident taking corners at high speeds. Everyone who talks **** about these doesn't own them. Yeah you could spend more, or get springs, but these get the job done for those who don't want to drop 1500 on higher end coils.

off topic i know, when you "shave" your S2000 badge off the fender, are there holes tha have to be filled behind it, or can you just pull it off and use bar and tar remover to remove the adhesive?

very true. GC's are of high build quality and so are the konis. if they aren't good enough... once can always get them revalved. i havent rode in an s2k with them, however.
