Factory Remote Door Lock & Alarm

Friend got a 2001 Civic EX with the factory remote door lock, but no alarm.

Can a aftermarket alarm (like Viper) be installed where the on/off be controlled by the factory remote?

Is that consider additional work?

Yes, DEI makes alarms (Hornet being one) that work off the factory keyless system. They are the lesser featured alarms though, not a Viper. I don't know why people are so sprung on keeping their factory remotes...
