Stolen Vehicle Registration?
Overnight, my car was broken into and both doors were left open with the glovebox open also. But the only things I could find missing was my insurance card and vehicle registration that I had in a black pouch, along with an energy drink I had in the glove box. I searched if this has happened to anyone else but couldn't anything anything on this matter. This is the first time I heard of this doing... Is this a serious matter? Should I be worried? Why would someone do this? And what to do now?
First, ask all you're friends about it to make sure it was not a joke. Second, file a police report to document the stolen items. Third, consider yourself very lucky that you still have your car!
There is absolutely nothing a thief can do with this items, other then grow wings of course.

Stolen car registration/insurance has become a problem up here, to the point that police are recommending you not leave the items in the car.

I'm surprised that's all they took and nothing else. I'm just more worried about if they could use the information to their advantage as it is under my parents name, possibly for id theft or anything? Is it possible to have the dealership make a key using just the registration? I know some people that works at the dealership, is it possible they could make it themself? And nice selection of words in the search. Didn't try using them, lol.

But why, still have not found a good reason. If they were gonna get a key made, why brake the window and not just write down the VIN. I have never heard of people making fake US tags but guess thats a possibility. What do your tags look like up there? Slim chance of identity theft with just your name and address. Why are they really doing this.

I would like to know the answer to that too. Anyways, I filed a police report and gotten a replacement registration and insurance card. I hope they didn't put anything in my car that wasn't there before...

From: 99 probs but a stolen car aint 1, ca, cerritos/fullerton
most theives would steal the reg when your out in the real world like when your shoppping, movies, or in a parking structure. This makes it easier to get the car becuase they now have a addy to were the car will be at. Then they can come in the middle of the nite were there lesss exposed. Some will go in the car write it down and put it back.
This is one reason why I don't leave this information in any cars that I own. Or if i do i make sure that it is locked. The glove box that is. you need to file a police report. And step up your security.

I believe our expiry date stickers, "tags" are pretty much the same as yours, a sticker with a peel off backing that you stick on the designated spot on the rear plate, designed not to be removable in one piece, once stuck on.

I notice this morning that my Giorgio Armani cologne that I had in the glove box was gone too. Anyways, is there a lock that I could put on the glove box? Does the four door eg come stock with them? If took they the registration for the address purpose, couldnt they just write down my address since it was taken off my driveway? Oh, and my hatch is staying in the garage for a while, by the way. And my room is right above the garage with the garage side door being blocked so I will know every time it is opened or closed.
Most times they use the registration in another similar vehicle (usually stolen or unregistered for other reasons) in the vain hope that the police will not check very closely. It doesn't work. But the myth persists.
I keep my original registration, insurance, and safety/emission documents in a safe at home and carry photocopies in the car. The copies are clearly marked as such. I have had no problems with the state or local police in either California or Utah when I have been stopped. You may want to check with the DMV and state police in your area for any issues they may have with it.
Just my $0.02

Today, one of my neighbors gave my vehicle infomations stuff back saying that they found it on the streets as they were walking. Colonge still gone and energy drink still gone. What the crap just happened? None of this makes sense. I can't think of a reason why and who would. What was the purpose of this all?
