My tach has a mind of its own, what might be the problem?
I was driving down the highway today and for some strange reason my tach just started to flucuate all over the place. This is the first time I have ever had this problem. Which wires I should look at to source out the problem? This is really pissn me off now, the thing is very annoying to look at.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thats odd I would of never thought of that. I have a brand new distributor too. Are the igniters hard to replace? I'll have take a peek at it tomorrow.
Ya I'll do that too, 75% of the time when I'm sitting at idle my speedo vibrates about a 1/4 inch but as soon as I give it gas but in nuetrul it stays nice a still? Maybe my cable is going bad?

no offense but how would the vss make the tach flucuate?

I was thinking the same thing... I"ll check everything I can think of but this is strange.. Also is there a bearing inside of the gear on the end of the speedo cable that goes in to the tranny? that might be one of my minor problems thats causing my speedo needle to not stay in one spot when idleing..

+2
Check whether the connection of the blue tach wire to the igniter is loose or corroded.

Thanks alot, Its a brand new dizzy like 3 months old so it's got me thinking something is coming loose. With my 300 horses under the hood and stiff *** motor mounts somethings bound to come loose .
common issue with "new" distributors. Most non-oem are made from lower quality parts regardless of the sellers claims.

Not true. They must meet minimum SAE standards. Many OEM standards are regulate to the minimum SAE standards. Many aftermarket parts are just as good as OEM. It depends on if he bought a ebay-chinese special that goes around the SAE standards. I've ran many non-oem dizzys (30XXX+kms) without issues..
Replace the cluster. You are not the first person I see this happen too, but most guys were revving it past 8000rpm and eventually the tach just started going crazy all over the place. New clusters usually fixed that.
I have spare 90-91 style (in kmh) if you are interested.

Well then I guess we will just have to disagree. I have seen countless aftermarket distributors flake out and fail in short time. I work on these cars for a living and this issue has been very repetitive. Not saying that this is definitely his problem, just that I have seen the same issue time and time again.
I had this problem before. I replaced the distributor and the problem was solved. I would send the dizzy back and get a new replacement. I've run a distributor king unit for 3 yrs going.
This was no cheapo dizzy off egay... **** it was like over 300 bux.
So now if it's not a loose wire I'm either looking at replacing my cluster or my dizzy? clusters are cheap I could do that, but the dizzy, thing works great.
The only time I ever had this type of problem was when I had one of those MSD ignition boxes - 6a - hooked up and right around v tec rpm range the tach would go nutz. I got rid of that box asap.
Well so far two possible causes, I let you people know what the culprit is after I get'r dun..

Thats funny that you mentioned a bad ground..
I really think that is it, I didn't drive it after I got home with the tach being jumpy, Today **** hit the fan for me, I have been sooo damm sick with the flu for the past week and hate car problems. I took it back on a short strech of highway not abusing my car at all, tach was still [freak]ed and the odd time it felt a little hesitant here and there that was barely noticable, well after I parked, did what I had to do then hopped back in the car and thats where I got REALLLY Fukin Pissed off.
I started it up started to back up got about 3 feet out and my beast died...
The engine light would stay on and when I turned the key the main relay was making some constant loud ticky sound and would not prime the pump.
I walked about 4 km's to the closest wrecker picked up another relay, came allll the way back, faught with it taking it out and whatta ya know does the same ****.
I could not believe this, I was about to go insane just then, swearing and cursing at everything in the way trying to reistall the relay.
$4 for a jet 10mm wrench, $10 for the fukin relay, $2 for a coffee and a whopping $96 for a tow
Get it to the shop and my honda guru experts like Ya just sounds like a bad ground. After all the **** I went through today 3hr's trying to fix, waiting in the cold for another 3hr's for the damm tow and also being hella sick just makes my day!
Having goooood grounds makes all the difference in the world to me now.
No it wasn't the cluster, nor the dizzy but a stupid easy to fix ground - I feel like killing myself now

it sounds like the cap and rotor to me.
i had the exact same problem after i put in the new tach in my car.
when i accelerated hard, it jumped all over.
finally one night i was drivin home and i would go about 20 and the car would die.
finally quit dieing on me, opened up the cap and it was f***ed up
replaced the pieces and have not had a problem at all
best of all, the tach actually does not bounce.
