Default Flood Damage Electrical

Hi, I'm new here. Im about to buy a 2003 S2000( Pending Advice), and I am looking for any help I can get. The car was supposedly left out in a very heavy rain storm with the top down, and approx 2-3 inches of water filled up in the floor of the car. Everything works fine, and there is no visable damage to the interior, car has very low milage. I am wondering if i should avoid this car, or what kinds of electrial damage could potentially occur down the road. I am an Avionics Engineer(Aircraft Electronics) so i have a pretty good understanding of electrictial in general, but I am new to the s2000. All help is greatly Appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone!

if the price is good, get it.

i wouldn't buy it because the top was down when it rained and 2 to 3 inches of water raised up inside the car

there must be a lot of mildew under that carpet now

car must of stink badly hahahaha

i ono i wouldn't get it bc mainly the top was left down while it was raining and yes because of future electrical problems

how much and whats the mileage?

where are you located?

can you hook me up with a job? hahahaha

i graduate from ITT Technical Institute with an AS degree in Computer and Electronics Engineering Technology. hahahaha

i would run away as fast as possible and never look back...
you don't need this headache man. as much as you know about electrical parts you should know what water does to them. is gonna be a bitch down the line when wires get corroded and you are having crazy electrical issues with your car and nobody can pinpoint the problem...

if you can get the car for less than $5000 and then buy a new body harness and ecu then maybe, just maybe but even with that low price i would probably stay away...

Thats what i was thinking. Im in newfoundland, canada. this car is listed at $17,500 with 30K on it. most s2000 comparable to it, without water damage are going at around 26-30K. I dont know if this forum is american or canadian, but if its american, then the canadian list price is $50,400 for the base model S2000 new from honda as opposed to the 30,400 american price tag. (just incase that price seemed incredibally high) Canadian auto prices are insane!

But.... As you guys said, I should probably hold out on this car. It breaks my heart really. haha.

that 17,500 canadian is about 10,600 american based on your new honda prices ratio.

that's not too bad... IMO just be prepared that you may have to replace the carpet eventually and/or the body wiring harness.

i honestly don't think there's anything lurking from the flood damage. however u can work on the price as much as u want i think. Because all the potential buyers out there are thinking exactly what you're thinking, and very few will step up and buy it. leaving u a nice cushion for haggling.

but honestly think about the possible damage, most of the harness is between dash and engine bay.. the only thing I would worry about is the ECU, but I'm not even sure if the S2k one is where the ECU's for other honda's are. (pass. side floor) I mean if you can pressure wash ur engine bay and have no electrical issues, thats at least 50% of your electrical worries gone. (excluding the dizzy/alternator)

just make sure you're thurough in your inspection.

i would lift up the carpet and inspect everything....chance are if these cars are worth so much where you are, than someone took care in the car asap and pulled all the interior out and dried everthing. im sure that they would just let the water sit in it I left my top down once and our sprinklers turned on and got my car once. i just pulled everything out and havn't had a problem at all. if its a GOOD price than take the risk

It has been some time now since Hurricane Katrina. Some of the cars that were damaged there are now on sale in other states with clean titles. Watch yourself, car sales is a dirty industry.

Yeah, the car in question has a clean title. I've talked to the seller again, and I have decided to stay clear of it. I think there is more going on with the car then he is telling me. I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and pay 24-25K. I wish the canadian market would even out or something, our dollars are basically the same! haha.
