banging sound from the back
my boy bought a 97 ej8. they dude he bought it off put weapon r coilovers on the stock struts( the slide on-s). now while were driving it home it bounced and slammed really hard in the back. what could be the cause of it? blown struts? or replace old springs with new springs?
if the car has stock struts and coilovers it could be one of two things...
-struts could be blown since the coilovers are a lot stiffer than the stock springs. this causes the struts to wear out quicker since they are always in compression. if they're blown then he's riding hitting on the bump stop.
-another reason which is probably it in your buddy's case is that the rear spring rate is way too stiff so the ride quality is harsh.
your friend's best bet would be to look for less stiff springs regardless of which one of the reasons is the cause for the harsh ride. stock struts won't last very long. Better yet he should invest in some performance aftermarket struts.

i had same problem when i first bought my hatch. they were adjusted way too low so theres was no tension on the spring. i raised back up a bit and was fine after that
