Whats this on the exhaust?
I was looking a pic of the underside of an 04 s2k and noticed this pipe section coming off @ a 90 deg from the exhaust system..
what is its purpose? never seen this before ..

It's called a Helmholtz Resonator. I'm not exactly positive, but I think it is supposed to minimize high frequencies, and adjust the tone or the pitch of the exhaust.
yeah its on all stock s2k's.
i have no clue what its for.
im sure its hallow.
i doubt theres anything in it.
i bet its for emissions and sound.
the car is quiet enough already.
it already has two big heavy mufflers.
i modded to straight pipe single outlet with apexi n1.

I didn't read through the whole thing. I was just trying to remember what the hell it was called, but I'm sure if you did read through it, it'd probably give you some useful information that you could apply to this certain case.

very very interesting
that makes a lot of sense why honda would do that to our stock piping
i learn something new everyday

YES, let it begin!!! It's a resonator. A lot of people actually install them on aftermarket exhausts for varying reasons.
I got out of breath trying to read that. I think this dude spazed out or something. This is what a 10 year old girl on speed would sound like, I'm sure of it!!!
GRAF, where ya at?

Your looking in the wrong manual. Check out the HelmHOLTZ manual.
Lol its basic function is like a regular resonator used to keep the sound down.
