Second Ge INtegra Help, GS-R Engine
Hi, i got a 1990 Acura Integra RS and I'm buying a GS-R motor from a body shop or junk yard. The GS-R motor is a 1993 with 150 000km and of course it's vtec.
my question is, when I do go buy the motor, what else do I need to get>?? cause i head I need a vtec controller???? and the tranny cause I got a cable tranny and the GS-R has a hydro tranny.
can somebody help me out cause I'm lost.

First of all you do not need a Vtec contoller, it helps but I myself do not have one.
The controller just allows you to tune your car as you mod (as in add cams, cam gears, etc.) it, or want to run various set-ups to obtain better performance.
Secondly, I would get the direct Hydro mate to the GS-R engine? I assume that you are buying a G3 GS-R motor? It is the tranny that was made of the engine and in my opinion should stay witht he engine, if you want though you can look into (good luck though) finding an ITR tranny to replace the stock GS-R tranny.
Your best bet for the questions you want to be answered would be in the Hybrid forum but I am sure some can help you out further. I will try my best if you need anything further...good luck

Just a suggestion, but I know the differences between the 90 and 93 is that the 93 is OBD1 (again I think). That engine is REALLY rare. It is a b17a. Good find. I think you have to convert. I found this on www.jdmhondaparts.com under ecu jumpers
This jumper allows you to adapt a US or JDM 92-95/OBD1 ecu into a 88-91 civic or 90-91 integra vehicle.
I think this is all you need as long as you get the ECU out of the car you are getting the engine out of, otherwise you are going to shell out some more money for a new ECU.
Again I am not an expert, so check all this with an experienced builder.
Good luck!

Oh yeah and about the tranny, I would definitely grab it if you can, but it may be interesting getting it in there. The gearing is a little tighter and will help.

if you buy a 93 GSR motor (B17A) it will have a cable tranny and the whole unit will bolt right in. The 90-91 Integras have the old school non-OBD wiring and ECU, the 92-93 are all OBD 1. The best thing to do would be to get the entire front clip off the car and utilize the OBD1 engine harness and ECU conn. This would make the process relatively painless.
Try also to get the gauge cluster along with everything else.
