Default firt alarm install Viper791 problems

hey guys, long time lurker 1st time poster.
i just got my first car and want to do everything myself. its a 98EX and i am trying pt put a viper 791 in it.
i have been following the writeups here as best i can. the things i haven't done are adding the kill switches or relays to the setup. i am also not putting in the remote start.
i added the backup battery a tilt sensor and the crutchfield radar thing instead of a shock sensor.
i decided to test the alarm out before i made all the final cuts and solders.
problem is nothing seems to work. the alarm brain is gettin 12volts and so is my tilt sensor. i checked the antenna to make sure it was ok and i get 5volts at the connector on it. and the light for the crutchfield radar thing blinks red whenever i move in front of it so i know its getting power.

whenever i press a button on the remote it just beeps at me and the little antenna picture blinks. nothing else happens. sometime the icon for recive on the remote blinks at me too. i get nothing else, the led for the alarm doesn't even come on.

i have been wondering, if i am not using the remote start do i still need to tap into the iginition wire? and where does that go in the alarm wiring harness? i didn't see anything in the install manual saying it needs ignition except the remote starts.

please be gentel to me, i am a serious car alarm noob

You will have to use the yellow wire from the ribbon cable for the ignition input for the alarm. Does the car have power door locks? When the alarm is armed does it trigger when you open the door?

You will need to hook the 3 thick guage wire from the remote start for power and also ignition as well as starter( not really necessary unless you want starter kill)....also check you have grounded the alarm to bare metal.......

You do not need to install the relay satellite, if you are not doing remote start you do not need any of the leads.
As 94_DC4 said, you will need to connect the yellow lead in the ribbon harness that runs from the main brain to the relay satellite to a "true ign." source, [hot in run and start] you do not need any of the other leads in the ribbon harness.

With that said, not having it connected will not prevent the alarm from working, you either have a problem with the alarm or you need to reprogram the remote, in which case you need to have the yellow lead in the ribbon harness connected.

Ign. input to the alarm is needed for triggering the alarm, [if ign. is turned on when alarm is armed] it is needed along with the program/valet switch for emergency alarm override, [in case you loose your remote or it stops working] and for programing, [like now to reprogram the remote]. 94

thank you for the help FCM
i got the chance to try working on the car today. i hooked up the yellow wire and started the car once. then i tried to go into the programming mode by opening the door and pressing the valet button.
i tried several time to do this it never worked. i do hear the door relays i guess make noise when i turn off the ignition from the start position. aside from that nothing else works.
how do i tell if the brain is dead?

You do have the yellow of the ribbon cable, from main brain connected to an "true" ign. source, [hot in run and start] correct?

You do have the neg.(-) door trigger, [green] connected to the correct lead in the car, [tests as ground when a door is opened] correct?

You are sure the valet/program button is plugged into the main brain properly, correct?

Will the system go into "valet" mode?
Turn ign. on, then off, then press and release the valet/program button, the LED should come on solid, same thing to get it out of valet mode. 94

thank you for the quick reply
the yellow wire is connected to the black/yel ign wire that suspended hatch says to tap into in his write ups.
the green/red wire does go to ground when i open the doors. i connected the green wire up to this wire.
yes i can get it into the valet mode by following your instructions
what should i do now?

If you can get into valet mode, it would indicate that the alarm is working, to a point.

You say the system will not go into "transmitter/receiver learn routine".
1- Open a door.
2- Turn ign. switch on.
3- Press and release valet/program button one time.
4- Press and hold the valet/program button.
The siren does not chirp one time and the LED does not blink one time?
The siren does not give one long chirp, [programming locked with "Bitwriter]?

Will the alarm go into "system features learn routine"?
1- Open a door.
2- Turn ign. on then off again.
3- Press and hold the valet/program button, siren will chirp once after about 3 sec., [menu #1] if you keep holding it the siren will chirp twice, [menu #2] and 3 chirps for menu #3.
Feature programing can also be locked with the Bitwriter or PC, [with interface]. 94

Then all you have to do is press the lock/arm button on the remote...
1- Open a door.
2- Turn ign. switch on.
3- Press and release valet/program button one time.
4- Press and hold the valet/program button, siren will chirp and LED will blink once.
5- Press and release the lock/arm button on the remote, [while still holding the valet/program button] siren should chirp to confirm remote has been programed. 94
