programming keyless entry?
alright so i have a 2000 honda civic ex 2 door. when i bought it from a dealership (used) whoever had the car before had an aftermarket headunit in it. my dad had the dealership install a stock headunit because the other one was garbage. I am almost positive its an Si one, which would mean it has the keyless entry module in it (its amber backlit), so i found out i can program a keyless entry remote to my car myself. i bought one off of ebay and just tried to program it, i cant get it into the programming mode, i've seen multiple differnet ways of doing it and even the one in the 2200 page pdf of a honda service manual didnt work. My friend told me i have to take it to a dealersihp but i dont want to pay $80 [freak]in dollars for it. is that my only option? help please.
Only the 96-98 EX/LX/HX radio had the keyless entry module in it.
On all 99-00 Civics, the module is in the driver's door. Being that you have an EX, you do have a door module, and you just need to get a key fob and program it according do your owner's manual.

EXes came standard with keyless entry. The Si radio has nothing to do with it. The keyless entry is tied to the radio on '96-'98s, but is separate on '99-'00s.
IIRC, there were optional amber lit radios for other trims, not just the Si trim. I know there were for '96-'98s, but I'd have to check for '99-'00 again.
Are you sure your remote matches to the stock keyless receiver for your car.

I just went to the honda dealership and they tried 2 other remotes they had there with no success, the guy said i need an EX radio and it will work. so is there anything i can do about this to make it work?

Read above. It has nothing to do with the radio, as you have a 00 Ex. Its in the door, as they said.

Whoever you talked to is confused.
99-00 EX coupes, 99-00 Si coupes and 99-00 EX sedans all use the same keyless remotes and control units (in the car). Even if you had no radio at all, your keyless should work fine.

Open the door up and see if the control unit's there. It could have been removed or it might have malfunctioned. You might need a new one.

For anyone with a 99-00 civic... I just got a fob from a friend and programmed it using the instructions from above and it worked perfectly. Thanks to the user who posted that, and to anyone trying to do it, its very easy.
Thanks again
