Why the hell is my car so loud at speed?
I've got an 88 CRX DX, automatic. Lately the car has picked up a loud hum/drone in the drivetrain... It starts at about 60 mph, but really gets loud at 70 and higher... I know it's not anything in the engine, since i can put the car in neutral and the hum doesn't change.
The weird thing is that it changes when I turn... at 70, it gets a little quieter when I turn the steering wheel more than 5 degrees right... And when I go left, it goes away almost altogether.
What the hell is it? I've made sure my wheels are bolted on tight, but I really don't know where else to look.

I had a rear bearing go south and I could barely hear anything from the drone. It was terrible. Turn one way it would go away turn the other it got louder.
So I pulled the rear passenger bearing and replaced it, because it was a noisy when I spun the hub while the car was on jackstands... put everything back together, drove off... and it's making the exact same noise.
How do I tell which side is bad? I thought it was the front driver side, but it seemed fine...
is there anything else this could be? I don't want to drop $150 on bearings and find out they're not even the problem...

just got back from vacation and i've been fiddling with it, and I'm still not convinced it's a bearing... there's no noticeable play in when i wiggle the wheel.
BUT i took a good look at the tire on the driver's front... What the hell is this dent? This can't be normal...

looks like you hit a pot hole or a curb etc.. the rim doesnt seem bent from the pic but that tire is deff deformed before spending any more money on bearings etc try a different tire you have lyin around
lol that dent is normal.. its part of the manufacturing process AND is very common in those tires (i work at walmart tire and lube center we sell those
) i see it all the time.. nothing to wory about really .. unless it feels really squishie and is sticking outwards... hpe thsi helps with your search...

okay. I didn't think it was anything to worry about after doing a bit of googling, but i definitely wanted to check before I ripped anything apart.
