Default Best Audio Set Up for GSR Sedan?

I have just started looking around for speakers for my 94 GSR Sedan.
I got an Alpine CDA7892 and for some reason it makes my stock speakers sound like crap - all the bass went out and the highs are sometimes a bit peaky.

Is there something wrong with the head unit or is this what happens when you use a different headunit with the stock speakers?

What speakers are the best sounding for the money?
I called Crutchfield and they said that I should get Kickers components for the fronts and the K69 Kicker 6x9 for the back since they will fit without mods. Also tried to sell me on a US Acoustics 85x4 amp to power the system since the Alpine is "underpowered".

I stopped by Sound Advice and the guy there said that I should get at a minimum $300 Boston components (if I want components) and $200 cobalt 6x9s and an Orion 5 channel amp $300.

The guy at Best Buy was too busy to help me...besides - did not look like they carried very good selection - was I wrong?

I want good sound - not competition sound or "boom car" sound.

Your opinions and thoughts are valued and welcomed.

I would definately look for MB Quart components. You can pick up a good set like around $200+ on ebay and 6X9 MB's for $150+. That should set you straight. As far as amps there are so many choices, I personally use Phoenix Gold ZX 450 powering everything. The sound is incredibly clean. Hope that helps

Good Luck

I totally agree...My friend has the alpine head unit alpine componants up front and 6 X 9's in the deck. JL audio 300/4 to channels playing up front and other 2 channels playing the 12w3. the 6x9's are on the headunit.... that **** bangs harder then my 2 10's. In a 94 gsr 4 dr.

I don't know how big a setup you are looking for, but as far as replacement speakers go, I like the way the JL audios sound in my friend's 4 runner. They have a good amount of bass kick if you aren't looking to put in a sub. But I don't know too much about audio (wish i knew more). But anything like Boston Acoustics will sound sweet.

I dont have a 2dr sedan but I do have a good knowledge about car audio. I too use JL Audio, here is my setup:

Pioneer DEH-P4100 deck
JL Audio XR 6.5" Components
JL Audio XR 6.5" Coaxials
JL Audio 300/4 to power components
(2) JL Audio 12" w3's 4 ohm
JL Audio 500/1 to power subs

I bumped a 139.4 at a local comp...not too bad for just two twelves in a sealed box (1.1 cubic feet per chamber). I installed it myself.

First off... dont go to Best Buy for you audio needs. In all seriousness, your best bet for good prices are online. Try [A Href=http://www.thezeb.com]http://www.thezeb.com</url> , or [A Href=http://www.woofersetc.com]http://www.woofersetc.com</url> - both great online dealers. JL Audio is good, but there are others that are just as good if not better, and can be had for less. I like the sounds quality of my system, but my XR's are a little too bright for me - with their aluminum tweets. If you want somethign that isn't designed to go too loud to break your ears, find something with a silk dome tweeter, which will have a much less harsh sound. I like MB Quarts, and Infinity Perfect components sound beautiful as well. Just do some research. Go to <A HREF="http://www.sounddomain.com" TARGET="_blank">http://www.sounddomain.com for a good group of people that can help you out on the forums. As far as subs go, 1 12" should be more than enough for what you are looking for, and I suggest an Adire Shiva. You can get one for about 125 shipped, at <A HREF="http://www.adireaudio.com" TARGET="_blank">http://www.adireaudio.com - a great sub, that has great sound quality, and doesn't take too much to get nice and loud, with still sounding good. Good luck!

Jonny

any teg drivers (and especially sedan owners) have a stealth sub? i haven't seen any applications for the teg yet and wondered if it existed.

i value my trunk space, so a big box is not ideal for me...

check my sig. It sounds awesome. I have also heard good things about the Alpine Type R comps for the front. I wish I could afford those. Seeing as you have a sedan, just get a good set of speakers, a good amp, and you should be set. With those 6 x 9's in the back, you probably won't want subs.

I've heard its possible to build a box for the trunk spare tire well and keep the spare, I think a 12 is the biggest you can put in there.

I have infinity kappas all around and they sound great. For bass I have a 500.1 JL amp and a single W3 10". I got the amp thinking I would get 2 10's, but I decided that the extra weight is not needed and as weak as it may sound the 10 can really shake such a small car. If you want an icredible amp despite the price I definately recoomend the JL 500/1 or 250/1 they are both incredible. Good luck!

Your orginial head decka nd speakers were match so that's why it sounded like you had bass. When you change the headdeack, it's off and you loss bass. All cars do this. Just go and listen to some speakers and decide on what you think is nice. People have different prefrences. My friend's MB's sound great but I also love my Boston Pro's. They sound different but both are nice...

I once saw a stealth box ( think it was from JL) that went into your spare tire well. No Spare but it held 3 10"s ..other than that, fiberglass or small box subs..

here's a link to my set up. It sounds great but I'm thinking about selling the deck, kicks and sub box.

Default Getting Rid Of Buzzes/Rattles?

I noticed a whole bunch of new buzzing and rattling coming from the rear deck with this new head unit.

What did you guys do to get rid of the buzzes and rattles in your sedans?
