i have a 95 civic hatchback..

2 years ago i repainted EVERYTHING milano red.
side skirts, front and rear lips and the fog light covers...

is there a way i can remove the paint off the fog light covers without damaging the original grey-like finish?

 

maybe use some paint thinner..?

 

You have a couple options. First, try scraping down to the layer you want to show and peeling away from the hole you scraped open. It's easy to go to far and sometimes difficult to peel pieces off. Really depends on the quality of the paint. Luckily you're only doing two small areas.
Second option is a chemical paint remover also called a paint stripper. These are paste like chemicles that can be applied to an area to soften the paint which is then either wiped or rinsed away with water. These can take up to 10 layers of paint off at a time so either get one that can be diluted or make sure you know how far down you're going.
These techniques are mostly designed for going down to the base material but if done carefully should be able to get you pretty close to the target layer. You probably won't end up with a nice clean undercoat right away, so be aware you'll probably have to recover the correct color at the end.

 

i was worried that if i use some paint stripper that it will mess up the original finish...

ill post a pic later of the car...maybe you guys think it looks better with the covers paint matched....
