replacing quarter panel.
i previously had some damage done to my drivers quarter panel and i had maaco do a cheap repair. it doesn't look bad when i'm driving but you really look at it you can tell the door doesn't sit flush, gap in trunk, and side skirt doesn't sit properly, along with gas tank door sticking out a little. People are telling me it is cheaper to just get a shell and transfer everything. But I really want to keep the original body because i've owned this car for almost 7 years and it has sentimental value to me. I want to have the quarter panel cut and weld a new one but obviously thats not cheap. I will probably cost around 3 grand, I mean I could pick up a hatchback with that but I'm a big fan of the dc2. The only thing I would consider getting is a ITR but of course their not affordable either. What do you guys think I should do?

How is getting another shell cheaper? Who will transfer all of the parts? Do you really want a salvage title? I say sell yours as is and buy another equivalent car without the damage.

I feel your pain man. I bought a GSR with a jacked up quarterpanel, and it is expensive as hell to get it fixed. A good bodyshop can do wonders man. If you have that kinda money to spend, you could possibly get the body repaired right, and get that color you always dreamed of.

this sounds likre a good idea if you know how to weld or know someone who will do it for cheap

I had the same problem. It was gonna be 3500 to replace the passenger quarter panel and rear bumper. I bought a 99 ls shell that had tanabe cat back, vafc2, and tokicos with ground control coilovers on it for 3200. Sold the vafc2, ls meshs, and still have parts to get rid of. Ended up paying about 2800 after I sold the parts I didn't need. The bumper, hood, and fender have been half *** repaired from a garage door falling on it but I have the front end off the wrecked one still. I swapped all the 00 gsr stuff onto it. It was alot of work, but hey it saved me money. Do what is cheapest. And remember that if you get the quarter panel replaced you're still gonna want an entire paint job instead of a blended half *** job that leaves overspray all over the place.
