Possible ITR buy this weekend, main things to look for?
I'm going to check out an ITR for sale this weekend. I'm probably going to have acura check it out anyway if the seller agrees but wanted to know if there is anything in particular to look for with the car.I have owned several hondas but don't know much about ITR's such as any common problems etc. guy said original motor went bad and he replaced with a jdm type-r motor and tranny. Reliability is my main concern so I'm a little unsure about the car because of the swap. Any thoughts would be helpful. he also said the car was dyno tuned and running p28 ecu but he still had original ecu. Thanks

Honestly, if I was in a situation and didn't have a garage, I'd rent a storage unit and store it until I did. I'd never ever ever even think about leaving my car parked in the driveway for 1 night, not even an hour. I actually don't even like opening the garage door just to pull in, I won't open it if I know a car is coming, and I live in a pretty good neighborhood...
Just general stuff, it's not much more different of a car then an EM1 or a DC2 GSR, it is but isn't, common car knowledge is all you need really... take it to an Acura Tech like you mentioned...
Naw, you'll be able to find out when you drive it. If you've ever had a friend who's owned an R bring him along...

as long as the P28 is tuned, I don't see a problem. I have the stock ECU for my ITR, but I prefer the chipped P28, as I can run the car OBD1. Also, with the tune, it makes more power than the stock ECU.
Are you in doubt of it being tuned? Or are you in doubt of it being chipped at all?
Just swap in the original ECU if you're in doubt about the P28. Drive it and test it with the stock ECU. Look at getting the P28 as an added bonus.

He said it was tuned on a dyno with adjustable cam gears and I guess the p28 was chipped accordingly with the tune. The motor is stock accept for the cam gears. It was done by the head tuner at that shop. I guess I'm concerned about timing being to advanced or rev limit being to high in order to make more power and not being reliable and safe for the motor. Maybe I'm just being paranoid because of the amount of money I'm spending and wanting the car to last a god while, this will be my daily driver.

If you don't care how you store it you can just paypal me the 15k and save the thieves the time of parting one. No offense, but if you pay attention to the forums at all you will realize theft is a main component of owning an R.

I have both and I'd have to say the s2000 is way more fun than the ITR. If I could only have one I don't know if I could live with daily driving the s2000.
