If it has the P72 program, it is searching for a knock sensor, which the P28 ECU does not support. Has the knock sensor been disabled in the program? Are you throwing a knock sensor CEL? A missing knock sensor will retard the timing.

it does have a knock sensor...but in the program which is UBERDATA IM GUESSIN , I ORDERED IT FROM PHEARABLE AND CHECKED IT OUT MYSELF ON MY FREINDS ROM EDITOR...the knock is disabled...its been bout a year and driving me nuts...new FF/wires/plugs/knock sensor/distributor,cap,rotor,/O2sensor as of today...timing is dead on, tps is reading correct, new iacv....when the car is initially started in the morning for the 1st few minutes (open loop) its ok, when at operating temp (closed lopp) thats when it begins...when i have the o.e ecu plugged in..it falls on its face and EVEN WORSE WHEN VTEC ACTUATES if it helps....
