True or False: ALL 1992 civics (VTEC and non VTEC) were wired for VTEC?
Cant get a straight answer in the archives, some say yes, some say no.
If a non VTEC civic is wired for VTEC, where is the wire located or where does it stop (interior harness, engine bay harness, a connector or cap or something?).

This is TRUE, I swapped a z6 into my 92 dx hatch no problem, didnt have to wire a thing. I'm positive the its wired all the way up to the shock tower plugs just like a ex/si. It's not wired for a knock sensor however i think.

I second that search.
Also no, if the car did not come with VTEC, there is no wire in the harness for VTEC, it must be pinned out manually using pins from radioshack or any other electrical appliance store.
OR-
Some companys (like rywire) make plug-n-play kits for VTEC swaps with pin connectors so you dont have to painstakingly pin it out yourself.

Incorrect, My 92 CX didn't have vtec and already had wiring laid upto the shock tower in the engine bay making a D16Z6 engine harness a direct plug in.

All 92's are like this, it was the only year. They are the only ones prewired for vtec. I guess honda seen a loss of money out of un-necessary wires ran in non-vtec cars for vtec, i dont know. But thats how it is.
those that helped, thanks. that jpg clears it up.
those that didnt, obviously missed the fact that I searched the archives and found CONFLICTING information. so GFY

I have a 93 cx that didn't come with vtec but swapped an engine that had vtec. Ran two wires bak through the firewall and pinned them into an ecu that came from a civic with vtec, P28 actually. Did the same with my wifes 95. The only problem with that one is the ecu was from a manual trans. civic and hers is an automatic. VTEC works fine but had to use the shift lock release to get it out of park. Take my advice and DO YOUR RESEARCH before buying an ecu and be damn sure it will work for our application.

When in doubt, call up honda of america and speak to the technician department.
Ive called once to get info on a motor (JDM D15b with 3-stage VTEC) and they were very helpful, despite being on hold for almost 20 minutes.

As a side-note:
I've found that most if not all 1992 Civic CX's with the D15B8 (Like mine) have 4 valve pistons and not 2 valve.

just a follow up, yes the 92 CX shock tower plug is wired for VTEC and matches up with my ITR OBD2b engine harness.
Here are the pin matchups at the plug:
VTEC Solenoid - orange/white (CX) >> green/yellow (ITR OBD2b)
VTEC Pressure Switch - orange/blue (CX) >> blue/black (ITR OBD2b)

If memory serves me correct, this was only the case for the 92 models that had the vtec wiring harnesses already. They were rushing getting the chassis into production for build, so they used the vtec ready setup for the other non-EX trims so they didn't have to worry about separating which chassis to use for DX, LX, etc. at that time.

Just an FYI, the EX didn't come out until 1993 to my knowledge *at very least the coupe didn't*
I still suspect that its only the 92 HATCHES that are pre-wired for Vtec due to the SI hatch, and there not being a Vtec coupe that year *Or a coupe at all for that matter*
