Gotta stock 99 civic, use the cheapest octane. Wondering what will happen if i fill one tank up with the highest. Try or not? Mileage is less than 60k.

 

Unless your Civic is an Si (Canadian Si-R), the only thing that will happen is it will cost you more to fill the tank.

 

Don't bother, not worth it. Ya won't get any more horsepowerz from using higher octane with a stock motor.

An 99em1 and I run the 93 octane in every tank. It always seems to run crappy with the 87, but thats just the butt dyno so your result may differ. It coosts me an average of about 4 more dollars to fill up with the premium gas. Oh, and the injector cleaners, I got nothing out of them. I used lucas when i got the car thinking it woule be healthy for my engine. Healty, maybe, but i didnt feel a difference.

 

Octane is a measurement of gasolines reistance to burning. I dont know how many of you took physics but one of the basic priciples is pressure creates heat. High compression=more pressure=more heat=detonation. Higher octance will not give you more power, it mikght burn slightly cleaner, but it definitely won't give you an increase in power.

 

yeah they about summed it up.. Better off with a better grade gasoline.. those nos bottles are worthless..

funny part is they charge about $8 for em lol

your si runs crappy with 87 because in b16a you actually need 91 or higher like honda suggests, with 87 you probably get a little knock that the knock sensor detects then it does its job to prevent knock by retarding the timing which causes you to lose power. I think any honda motor with a compression ratio of 10:1 or higher needs premium

 

i personally think the lucas injector cleaner once a month makes a difference

 

Nothing like maintenance. I don't know if this is scientific or not, but I personally feel if you run the injector cleaners regularly, it greatly expands how long you can wait to get a full fuel system flush for whatever ungodly price somebody wants to charge. You probably won't feel anything on the butt-dyno...

 

Like Chevron,Texaco,Shells, they have cleanening chemicals already in the gas so you dont have to put them fuel cleaner in your tank but if it makes you feel good go for it.

 

Just purchase Top-Tier fuels and you'll be fine! Injector cleaner...LOL, what a joke.

It will only burn cleaner if the car actually makes enough heat (compression, timing advance) to burn it all the way. If it doesn't, the unburned fuel will find it's way into the cooler exhaust, and cat. It may burn there and leave behind sooty residue or reduce your cat's ability to function.

Nobody likes a dirty cat.

 

I've heard the DOHC ZC's "need" 91 ocatane.... I switch between 89 and 93 each time I fill up (obviously not emptying it out). Do most people stick 87 in there, because I honestly haven't noticed a difference other than it costing $29 to fill up rather than $25...
