Default Slicks or Drag Radials and Size

Hi there,

I am a first tiemr to real racing with big power and I am asking for the help of you guys. I have a 5 lug Civic Type-R with a built B18c that is putting out about 450whp. I have on a Wilwood Big Brake kit. Therefore, I am only really allowed to use 17 or higher. However, I have found a wheel by Team Dynamics which gives me the needed offset to fit a 15 inch wheel. Now, the real headache comes with regards to my choice of tyres. I am going to be using the DSS Stage 2.9 axles. I was adviced not to use Drag radials but to use Slicks instead, as the Radials usually damage the axles as well as drivetrain. I would like to get the tyres hooking up really good, but with a slight mix of slippage so that nothing is damaged.

This is my daily driver but I will be going to the track occassionally (probably twice a month). What is the best tyre for me to use? I am not familiar with the brands or anything. Is the 15 inch a better bet than the 17? What type of tyre should I use. I am not aware of the difference between a drag radial and a slick. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm interested in some feedback to this statement because I'd like to run 15" DR's on a fairly regular basis.

I would think slicks would break more axles since they grip alot more than drag radials.

The key to not breaking is to preload your drivetrain before you launch.
