Need help with gauge cluster?
I have a 93 civic i just bought and the Speedometer doesn't work but everything else does. I was told by the person who sold me the car that all i have to do is plug it in but i wanted to make sure i do it right so whats the easiest way to do this. Also i tried to take the cluster out and had a problem wit that what is the easiest way to do this too. Thank you ahead of time.
i had a hard time removing the case over the cluster. where you gotta unscrew the 2 screws up top and take it out. i treid and cracked it so i stopped. and the person who sold it to me said the speedometer doesn't work cause its unplugged so he said all i gotta do is plug it back in, so thats what im tryin to do.
Pop out the clock, or the blank panel where it would be, and you'll see another screw. At this point, IIRC, you have all the screws needed to remove the "bezel" that you cracked (somebody chime in if I'm wrong).
Again, IIRC, you can't unplug just the speedo (unless you rip the wire out of the connector). Sounds like a load of
to me.
Who wakes up in the morning and says "Ya know what, fvck it. I'm gonna unplug my damn speedometer. I'm tired of looking at that thing."

if you bought a new cluster...take the bezel off and there are 4 philip screws and 3 plugs. unplug those and take out those screws and put the new one in. installation is the reverse of removal. good luck.
to remove the gauge cluster:
1. remove your hazard button. (can be done with any flathead.)
2. theres 3 screws to unscrew. (two above the steering wheel, and one behind the hazard button.)
3. pull the panel out. (theres also a harness plugged in where the clock should be if you dont have one, be careful not pull it with a lot of force, but it should come right off.)
4. theres 4 screws around the gauge cluster, unscrew them. (2 on each side.)
5. pull the gauge cluster out. unplug/plug what is necessary.
6. to put everything back, go in reverse order. ^^^^
hope that helped. i also have a 93' civic. didnt know there was a screw behind the hazard button and broke the panel in half, so i had to buy a replacement one.
but everything turned out fine.

Wait a second...I thought that 3rd screw was behind the clock (or blank panel if it has no clock)? Pretty damn sure.

i ended up changing my gauge cluster and the speedomter still doesnt work so i got to fing out what i need to do to get it to work. any suggestions?
Yeah I have a similar problem. I bought my car off of some people that tried to play it off as being all kitted out and ****, but the real deal is that it was just a pile of crap that someone riced to hell and back and now my job is to fix it. My speedo was off by twenty mph at first and then they fixed it. Now it doesn't work at all. The trip works, but no speedo. I recently put glow gauges on it, but didn't remove the needles, they were moved, but not removed. I'm sure I'll be back on here cause there are sure to be plenty more questions, like B18c5 motor swaps, for sure!!!
what first came to mind when I read "plug it back in" is to check your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) as that is what he may have meant by "plugging it in" it's pretty easy to find it's on the top side of the transmission. If I remember right if you look straight down on the left side of your intake manifold you should see it.
