Default Wheels for 2000 Honda Civic

Guys,
I'm new here because i can't find answers anywhere else.

I recently bought some 2007 Honda Fit alloy wheels for my 2000 Honda Civic. (the irony of this situation, is that the wheels absolutely did not FIT!) here are the wheels specs for what i bought:
Wheel Size: 15" x 6."
Bolt pattern: 4 lug x 100
Offset: 55

i've been running on stock 14 inch rims with hubcaps (i'm assuming 45 offset?)

anyway - i bought all new yokohama tires to fit the 15 inch rims. They got all of the wheels setup, put the front ones on with no problem...then put the back ones on. (and we had a problem) when they would spin the tires, you could see the wheel was slightly catching and grinding against something. when we looked closely, the wheel was just barely catching a piece of the frame that comes off at the joint of the mount.

anyway....the company won't take the wheels back, because they are considered "used" now...even though they sold them to me assuring me that they would fit on a 2000 civic.

i have no idea what to do now. i've considered grinding down that metal that touches the rim....i can't do 10mm spacers or the tire companies won't work on it....what would you guys suggest?

The FIT wheels will look like *** on a civic. Way too "sucked in" because of the higher offset.

Buy the spacer. This will put you at a "45mm offset".

Since 10mm is around .4'', you will probably need to buy extended lug studs and OPEN ENDED lugnuts from a 93 honda accord EX. Or you can opt for the GRAY spoon lug nuts ($100ish).

The extended lugs will require an open ended lugnut. The only open ended lugnuts available in ball seat (honda uses a ball seat on their wheels) are the 93 accord EX or the gray spoon.

What peice of metal is scraping the tire? What size tire do you have? Take some pics. It may or may not be safe to grind it down.

Or just sell the fit wheels and buy some civic wheels.

thanks for the feedback so far
i can try to get some pictures for you.

i was putting on Yokohama - P195/60R-15
would tire size at all affect the wheels grinding if the car was still on the lift?

It would have if the tires were too wide.

195/60/15 is the wrong size for a 00 civic. The correct size is 195-55-15.

The 195/60/15 will be around .75'' too tall.

Try to get the pics.

here are links to three images. i tried to add some arrows so you can figure out exactly what i'm talking about. it's a part of the frame i'm guessing...that just barely sticks out past it's closest joint. again, the rim can spin....just slightly grinds and somewhat catches this piece...

that doesn't make any sense, though. The arrow is pointing to a part of the trailing arm. However....that part is usually housed inside the rim.

Can you take some pics of the fit wheels installed? They really SHOULDN'T be scraping anything.

so you are saying only at certain times it catches that little nick there? i'm thinking it could be the weights that they put on the wheel when they balance your tire....that usually nicks things here and there. these bad boys

i'll try to find a time to get the other wheels on there. as of right now my originals are on so i can drive it. i did look under the car and could see that the piece i showed would grind against the wheel.

the weights aren't on the fit wheels now either - so i'll see if that was the difference maker. if it is...what would you suggest? that was the odd thing to me. it would rotate fine for a bit, then it would catch and grind.

it could be a number of things. my friend had the same problem but only when he turns. then we find out that the wheel was bent......so what did i do? i raised up his car, turned his wheel all the way one direction so i have clearance and a shot with a hammer on that bent side. i hit it till there was no more "rim" sticking out and being able to grind against whatever it was grinding against.
