Default 1997 Civic with a thrown rod - Need help on replacement options

I have a 1997 Civic with a SOHC V-TEC Engine (I think it's V-TEC) and my brother was driving a suddenly throw a rod right threw the engine.

Basically what I'm asking is what are my options or replacing the engine.
What engines can I get for it?
And for everyday use, what would be practical to get for a decent price?
And how do I know what kind of engines will and wont fit?

lol they each have there own lil beast. the fit really aint the thing with v tech and non, thats just a couple of wires. and the switch to dohc isnt really a big deal either you just might have to pick up a couple extra things...... the real question is what do you have planed for the car in the future and what do you use it for?

Well, this is my first car.
Just turned 18 and bought a 1997 Honda Civic because I figured they are the most dependable and the easiest to fix....
But to be perfectly honest, I am only probably gonna use the car to get to point A to point B. I mean going fast isn't top priority but I would like to still have some power so I can have fun with it, but I'm not looking for it to be a "racing" car.

Any OBD 2 single cam motor vtec or non vtec is going to bolt in. Instead of ebay I would check into Hmotorsonline.com. It may cost a little more, but you get a warranty and you always know thier motors are not stolen or there is something wrong or parts missing.

If you decide to go with a dual cam you will have to swap mounts, transmissions, axles, ecu, and a few other things I just dont feel like listing them all.

if your gonna just use it as a driver then the cheap and easy thing to do is put the same motor back in it... you can always add somethings to it to make it a little faster. but with a honda your options are really endless. you can damn near put anything into anything (I HONDAS!!!!!!!)

Okay, well I looked at the site that was listed and I didn't find my b16y8 motor.... but I did find http://www.hmotorsonline.com/s...30027 this one.... which is a b20b 96-00(crv) long back

Now I wanted to know if this will fit, and if it does is the longback enough to fix my problem (throwing a rod)

The CRV motor will not bolt right in.There were plenty of single cam vtec motors on Hmotors. It doesnt have to be the d16y8 pretty much any single cam is going to bolt in.
