HELP! 1992 Honda Accord LX has SLOW ACCELORATION ?? Slow Pick up ??
Hi, I just bought a 1992 Accord LX Coupe AUTOMATIC TRANS. at an auto auction and it is accelorating very slow from a stop.
I tried replacing spark plugs and air filter with no avail.. What else should I check? I was thinking about checking the fuel filter next..
What do you guys think?
The car seems to drive fine once it gets up and going.. Vehicle does hae 269k miles on it but I only got it for $700...

you have to be alittle more descriptive...whats the car acting like? is it sputtering? stalling? could be a bad rotor? dizy??
No sputtering, no stalling, just slow to accelorate when I press on the gas pedal..
So you think it's a rotor or distributor and not a fuel delivery problem?
How would I check the rotor and/or distributor with my ohm meter?

I agree w CD5, a more descriptive post could help, if there is anything wrong with it mechanically..

you just gotta remember, its a 1992 Stock automatic Honda Accord with 269k , its not the same caliber car thats made today. bottom line, its an older factory accord. heavy and underpowered.
if you want it to go faster, it mainly depends on your budget. You can go big and get turbo/nitrous
Or you can go the more common, cheaper route which is basic bolt-ons.

Ok here's a better description, when I push the gas pedal about 75-80% engaged.. I'm still under accelorating, it probably takes like 20 seconds to reach 40-50 mph..
cell phone+taking video of car accel+upload to photobucket+post here on HT=Better help

my accord is kinda like yours but not that terrible, but i do understand what you mean when it take so long to get up to speed. What you can do is change your oil do a FULL tune up, clean all that carbon build up that should help get some power back, but think about it
you bought a car for 700 hundred bucks don't expect it to b great on performance/reliability (even if it's an accord) and besides it has 269k it's a grandma for a car. Also it's an AUTO tranny that could also be an issue on your accelarating issues.
