CEL was cleared, can it still be there?

CEL was cleared, can it still be there?
Went to check out what my CEL was and the idiot at Autozone 'cleared' it by "accident"...it hasn't come back but I was wondering if it could still be there but just not show the CEL symbol on the cluster?

I'm posting this for a friend and I'm out of town so I can't do it. She doesn't really want to mess with anything, even though its so simple, can it still be picked up on the obd scanners?
