The CEL is trying to tell you if you keep on driving you can do more damage to your car.

A flashing CEL means tow it and get it fixed.
A solid CEL means something is wrong but it is ok to drive to get home.

I don't think that your CEL would flash for an EGR code. Do you have any more codes?

The EGR is an easy one to fix/check out. Get a manual and see if you can troubleshoot it yourself.

It's flashing because your engine is misfiring. When it misfires, raw fuel is sent into the exhaust. Raw fuel and hot catalytic converters don't place nice.

So yeah, what he said.
