Default Fittings on the bottom of the radiator?

My radiator has two metal fittings/nozzles (I don't know what to call them) on the bottom of it that look like they are supposed to be attached to hoses. I have been wondering what they are for and if they are supposed to be connected to anything. My Helms manual shows them, but it does not say anything about them. I have noticed that a lot of the aftermarket radiators do not even have these fittings.

What are they and what is the purpose of them?

The fittings are for the automatic transmission oil cooler coils in the radiator. If you've got a manual trans, they aren't used, obviously. Most aftermarket replacements come with them. It's the "one size fits all" aproach.
