After months of keeping my hatch garage and drive-way kept i decide to park it on the street for merely a day and someone ends up swiping it. its seems to be starting to rust and also a little bit on the other side as well. both rear quarter panels already have some damage under them from 17"rims and large tires that the previous retarded owner had on the car. my question is how much would it probably cost to repair this back to good condition? and do i have to get that whole portion of the car sprayed? heres the images:

the paint wont be the expensive part the body work will. a body shop will probably charge 800-1k for straightening and repainting all of that damage back to normal. unless you want new paint or new panels for now id just say primer it til you decide where to go with it.

 

800-1000? thats a gyp. well my quater panels aren't really badly damaged, just slight bents, scrapes, and dents. im sure its unnecessary to replace them with new panels, but how is that done? do they cut the portion on the panel and weld in the replacement? thanks

naw they raplace the whole panel from where it comes up by the mirror all the way to the back by the tail light... its all one piece. 800 isnt bad considering that will be quite a bit of time in work if it is done at a reputable shop and done well then its always a bit more. paint would prpbably be 200 alone minimum. bodywork is expensive for it to be done right.

 

if the damge isint that bad they can just fix the dents and bondo in and spray it shouldnt cost too much

bondo=****. i hate looking at cars that shops ruin by just bondoing and not actually working with the material.... just my opinion. if you go to a cheap shop thats what you will get.

I took my time when I did the rear quarters and they came out all right using FG filler.

 

Your best bet is getting spot repair by a GOOD body shop. Then get it painted by maaco. Don't put bondo on anything you plan on keeping.

 

maaco paint jobs are just like using duct tape to fix the qp damage.. You get what you pay for with everything. Save some money and get it done right the first time

 

If used properly, there is absolutely nothing wrong with bondo. There are a LOT of very very nice cars with 10k dollar paint jobs with bondo underneath...

 

i thought about it and my girlfriends dad is gonna fix it me for since hes been doing body work since he was my age. this weekend hes gonna give it some temporary paint to prevent rust until we actually get it repaired.

you can go get an estimate for free... just go get some and think it over. just know that reputable shops work is amazing.. your car ends up new.

 

there isnt anything wrong with bondo , i dont care what anyone says . in a perfect world we wouldnt need it but accidents do happen . all the old muscle cars our dads like are filled with tons of bondo . im sure youve seen the shows on tv where they take a old mustang for a junkyard and turn it into a 50 thousand dollar car . they also make a quarter panel that can be found on ebay http://motors.shop.ebay.com/_C...tasZ1 . these wouldnt be a bad investment . they should be able to blend the repair into the old paint . when it comes time to make sure you get a rust inhibator ( i think thats what its called ) i used right rust wont comeback . chances are if you only use regular primer the rust will eventually come back .
