need help with timing

Default need help with timing

ok, I have gotten the car all the way to the point that it will almost turn over but the timing is off and it will not start what should I do to get timing reset, how would I go about reseting to TDC. I know it has to be easy I am just stumped.

set the pulley so that the pointer on the timing belt lower cover is lined up with the mark in the middle of the 3 marks on the pulley. Thats TDC, now set your cams and go hit VtaK!!!!

factory service manual everyone should have one

but as far as this job get your 12 mm socket or wrench and turn til the up side of the cam gear faces up then it kinda depends on what head you have and thats where the manual comes into play but generally line the lines on the sides of the cam gear with the flat area on the head (sohc) or line the lines on the cam gears so they meet in the middle with the up side facing up (dohc) and on the SI 88-91 i think its off a tooth towards the advanced side? someone correct me if im wrong but i know there is a post about it in archived content if you search

theres lines on either side of both cam gears, match all of them so there even with the head, then the UP will be up, if its off a little you can adjust the dizzy to compensate. O ya turn the cams counter clockwise.
