So ive been looking at getting a used 4 channel amp to run my components. and i cam across a used Soundstream amp- PCA 4.520 80x4 @ 4 ohms, retailes 250.00 which i think i can pick up for like 50-80.

Question is, regardless of the price, how does this amp compare to other brand such as JL audio.

 

JL is overrated. Soundstream are still really good amps.

So the SQ is good out of them? and there power ratings are accurate?

I know i was just joking, not being sincere. since he stated "JL is overated" not "JL amps" just me being critical no biggie.

Anyone else have any clue as to the quality of soudstream amps?

I said they are overrated I didn't say anything about the quality. JL makes nice products no question about it just overrated. Meaning there are many other products out there that are just as good as JL for much cheaper.

I just purchased a blown 500/1 for $60 so I guess I'll see how well that amp is made soon.

Soundstream makes quality products and there build quality is top notch. Customer service can't be beat.

 

I agree, there is a very large JL band-wagon

well over 1500 bucks worth of stuff all for only get it here for $500

Would i be low balling him to offer him 70-80 shipped for the pca a.520 amp?

Soundstream makes nice amps for the bang of the buck. They also have some cheater amps out there will put out 1k and its like the size of a 200 watt amp. There old school thou.

I bet no one here remembers the soundstream d200.

Anyone ever hear of nelson pass? ^^

skingfreak I have to agree with all the above, SOUNDSTREAM still makes a pretty good product, although putting it up against a JL Audio 300/4, IMO the JL would come out on top, but if you can get the SOUNDSTREAM for $70-$80, and it's in good shape, it would be a very good deal. 94

You must be talking about the PCA version. Because soundstream still makes some of the best sound quality amps made. The human reign series would destroy anything JL has ever put out. Even the Picasso series I would say would be an extremely close match. You'll never get the customer service out of JL that you can get out of Soundstream. Form the dealer point of view I have heard they are somewhat difficult to deal with. But the end user they bend over backwards for.

I keep hearing that about JL Audio, [poor service/tech support] but it must be a USofA thing, because up here we have no problems, either with customer support or dealer support, it's one of the reasons I like the brand.

I do agree the Human Reign series is a very good amp and JL has nothing on the same level.
The the new Picasso series is a direct response to the new JL Audio slash v2 series and are a pretty good match to each other. 94

I wouldn't call JL tech/customer service poor. Just my personel experience with Soundstream is they go above and beyond what one would expect.

But he pm'd me back saying he could do $150 shipped but i think my offer was fair considering his total asking price. Correct me if im wrong here:

250/1500=.166

.166*500= $80

I have always liked their stuff. My first set of subs were SPL-12's.

 

I have a set of spl 10's sitting at the house.

I also had a reference 200, but it would fry a resistor about every 3 months at 2 ohm mono. Now I don't know where it ended up at.

 

SoundStream is just like many US audio companies these days...mostly junk. Back in the 90's, companies such as Rockford Fosgate, Orion, Lanzar, HiFonics, Autotek, Phoenix Gold, Linear Power, etc...made top-quality products that enabled many car audio freaks to win numerous audio competitions. These days, I wouldn't even buy anything from any of the companies listed above because they have became cheap. Cheap as in quality. Do yourself a favor and buy something more reputable. If I were you, I would rather purchase a nice RF or Precision Power amp from eBay. I have done it several times and the products I purchased were FLAWLESS!! You just have to know what you are buying.
