on my friends 1992 prelude si the key after turnin off the car wont come out of the ignition... its a weird problem it locks in there untill we disconnect the negative terminal from the battery, then we can pull out the key

 

sorry if this sounds obvious, but i had to show this to lackey at the tire shop the other day. you have to push the key in while turning left to get it outta the ignition.

if thats not it then i don't know. i don't know what could possible be grabbing onto the key while it has power.

 

yes we tried turnin the key..it has always worked fine...it just happened recently after swapin the automatic trans for a 5speed

 

are u sure its not the weight on the steering wheel? like when it gets stuck, try turning the wheel left and right while pulling the key out the usual way..?

 

There is your problem, in the auto's there is a sensor that wont let you take the key out unless the car is in park. ooo.. wow... i feel so stupid... is there a way that the problem can be fixed????

 

Did you take out the TCM? What did you do with the wires that went to the auto shift lever?

 

Good think I caught this thread, I might have totally missed this when I do my swap this easter. What has to be done to prevent this?

 

Take out or discconnect the autolock box down by where the clutch pedal is.

 

i swapped the ecu.... we had to bypass the neutral safety switch so the car will turn on... so i set the shift lock box to park and tapped the 2 wires toghether that make the parkin connection
