About to start 5 speed swap, some questions
I am about to start a 5 speed conversion on my 91 teg. I have everything but a new clutch kit. I was told i am going to have to use a 5 speed computer by one person and another said i could use the auto computer if i disconnect the neutral safety switch. If anyone has any suggestions or comments please let me know. thanks.
I have the clutch cable, 5 speed transmission, gauge cluster, pedal assembly, and i have the mount for the 5 speed transmission, i dont know if it is different yet or not, i think they are the same. I hade a 93 5 speed integra that i wrecked and did motor swap into spare 91 integra with auto. I should have done the swap while motor was out but i needed a car to get to school. I sold the 5 speed ecu and harness like a dumba** but guy offered money and i needed it. But that is what i got for the swap.
you do not need the manual ecu. but its good to have. you will throught a check engine light though. im doing this now. you have to wire your car so its in park. where the auto shifter is there should be 2 thick black wires i believe. those need to be wired together. thats how it is on a dc. idk about da. you need to rewire you reverse light as well. idk how to do that. so look that up and cruise control to i believe if you have it. i didnt do that. did you get manual tranny mounts? midshaft? and you need to get innovative's conversion mount for auto to manual tranny conversion. good luck
I've done a swap on a civic, and it was rather easy as long as you have the right tools and ALL, I mean ALL the parts and BOLTS (something everyone over looks)
You can convert your ecu to manual, just search for it, just have to remove a resister and what not...very simple.
The harness that goes to the auto-shifter has what you need to get the cruise and reverse working. Don't recall what pins, but just have to run two wires from the tranny to the plug. and to clutch pedal (cruise cancel i believe).
You can knock this out within the day if got everything.
Good luck...worth it

thanks, i was asking a buddy last night about converting the auto ecu to manual, he said it was a resistor you take out and solder over it. I will research it though. Thanks!

Shoot, I didn't solder anything. I just removed the one resistor, and the check engine was gone. There are DIY out there that state two have to be removed, while others say just one (single came ecu though)...may apply.
When I did a 5 speed conversion on my Civic, I had the auto ECU and it refused to hold a steady idle for awhile until I got the manual ECU in there. I also had the Check Engine light as well until I swapped ECU's.
the check engine poop most likely slap your car into limp mode....
When I removed the resistor, car ran great (until I went around the block and the pulley bolt snapped)

I did a auto to manual swap on my 1991 Integra LS. This is what I bought for it.
5 speed tranny
cable and pedal set.
passenger side axle (halfshaft) - supposedly it is shorter than the auto version. manual tranny is smaller i think.
new clutch and flywheel
had a bushing machined for the passenger side tranny mount. - make sure your mounts are correct for the job.
shift linkage and shifter
My cruise control NEVER worked after the swap. Even the machanic that didn't couldn't figure it out. I think he messed with the wiring and jacked it up.
I had the CEL and idling issue. Went to a junkyard and picked up a manual ECU and the problem went away. Oh, the ECU was like $70 I think.
Honestly, I spent about $1,100 doing the swap, and although I loved my car, in the long run I feel it was foolish of me to do it. I mean, I could have sold the car and bought a manual without losing any money. Not to mention that when you do the swap, it may or may not turn out as good as it runs if you bought it that way from the factory. Again, I did it because I liked my car. Ended up selling it. Wish I had my $1,100 back.
Good luck with the swap.
