Default 97 GSR A/C clutch woes

Okay, so my A/C clutch does not engage when I turn on my A/C switch. Blower kicks on but the clutch won't engage. If I hook up the clutch directly to the battery it engages. I've checked the clutch relay, it is okay, there is voltage to the low pressure switch. What else should I check? I was told, perhaps the thermostat on the evaporator may be bad? How can I check that? Or what else should I troubleshoot?

Should I just wire up the clutch to a toggle switch and turn it off and on every couple of minutes.

Not sure what the electrical schematic is on the teg but its possible that the thermo switch on the a/c compreesor is bad.

Are you talking about the thermostate on the evaporator mounted under the dash? That's all I can think of now. How do I test that?

My suggestion to you is just pull the A/C, just a luxury not a necessity.

Easy for you to say when your average summer temp is only like 85 oF. It hits 105-115 here in the summer for 1-2 months. Then 95-105 for another 1-2 months. Combine that with Black Leather interior and your looking at a hell of a summer.

if the freon level is low in the car, it will not allow the compressor to turn on. so check to make sure that the low pressure switch is right. i am assuming that if it has adequate pressure it is a closed switch, so if the pressure is low, the switch would be open. So you said you had voltage to the sensor, make sure you have voltage leaving the sensor also.

Freon is fully charged using an a/c machine. Also, the a/c clutch relay is good, but no voltage gets to it when I turn on the a/c switch inside the car, so Im thinking the thermostat is bad and is not sending voltage to the a/c clutch relay.
