Default started another manifold..a20 sidewinder

This is going to be kinda difficult to build because I don't have the car and motor, hopefully my visualization/memory will be adequate. Anyway, the turbo will be off somewhere above the intersection of the motor/tranny, and should clear the a/c and p/s. I'm not making this for anyone in particular, but people on 3geez.com always complain about no manifolds being available, so maybe one of them will buy this when it's done. Who knows. I'm still waiting for my head flange from weirtech, so this is all I've done so far. I thought twice about posting this up, but then I thought why not..

huh? so you're building it not knowing if it will fit, and then when finished won't even be able to test it out and see if it fits, but you're planning on selling it?

cool, i think.

Instead of welding a T3 flange on you should have made it flanged for the Tial T3 V-Band that way you'd have a much better chance of it working in the end

You not going to bevel the ends of the runners on the collector?

Well, I have that same car, but mine has the b series motor. I used to have a turbo setup like what I'm building now back in the day, years ago. I was able to fit the a/c, p/s, the front motor mount, and a 3" downpipe. So I have a pretty good idea of how it should be set up. There are also a few pics I can get dimensions from, like this one.

Mine will be a little more equal length though.

how efficient are these manifolds that merge into one pipe, and have that one pipe run into the turbine inlet flange, as opposed to having the merge collector right at the turbine inlet. my manifold would have been so much simpler if i had done it that way. any pros/cons to this route when divided/twin scroll isn't a concern.

Right car, wrong motor, but previous experience and pics to look at..it will be a pain though.

Like assitch1's manifold? What a screen name, damn..

I don't know. That's a really good question, I'd like to know more about that too. I think that would not be quite as efficient at preserving the energy of each exhaust pulse to the turbo, but as far as how much of a difference that makes in the real world, I don't know. It also probably depends on the length of the primaries and the length of that tube. I've also seen manifolds that look like an oem tri y header made into a top mount, with 2 tubes going up to the turbo, I always wondered about them too.
I would say as far as the single pipe to the turbo thing though, keep that pipe as short as possible? (But I'd prefer a little increased length on it over having ourageously long primaries..?) When I was first thinking about the manifold I'm working on now, I thought of having the collector point down, instead of using the 2" radius pipe, but everyone else does it that way, and the pipe is so short, I don't really see it making too much of a difference.

Definitely interested in more input on the long single pipe or double pipe thing..
My intuition is usually pretty good, but I'm really interested if anyone has any technical explanation here. (that can be backed up, sources cited, etc)

my single pipe is probably a bit long... but that has to do with the rest of the setup...
i wont be using an intercooler... so that should cancel out a bit of the ineffectiveness...

it's probably true that this way you dont get enough use of the heat and pulses for the turbo... but we'll see what it does...

glad you like my screenname

What, with further ineffectiveness?

You gotta admit, you walked into that one..

what i meant was i wont be using an intercooler in the normal way... not some huge thing mounted in the front bumper... it'll be an air/water intercooler... doubling as an intake manifold

Doubling as the intake manifold? So how will you avoid a small surface area with a high velocity and pressure drop across it?

i'll post pics when im done

i'll be using a garrett core... they sell it at atpturbo.com... it can handle 1000hp worth of airflow... so i think i'll be good....

here are some more pics..almost done, just don't know what to do with the wastegate yet. Either the 44mm v band tial, which I prefer, or the 38. Either way, this thing better fit the car..
