Funny story my friend and i were having the same conversation last night and we couldn't find out what is was it was late so we said screw it and he left, this morning he called me and told me that he had blown his piston rod through his block on the way to work.
That was a little off topic but do you know where the noise is coming from?
head,block.heat sheild, manifolds.

i had a probelm like that but it was around 2000, it could be you exhaust, my car is lowered and i would scrape against the pavement every now and then, then i realized that my exhaust pipe split right after the resignator, so maybe theck your system to see if it split anywhere

I have a rattle noise from 2-3k too. I know for sure its inside my cat. I replaced my aftermarket header with OEM and there rattle is still there. I'm just too lazy replace the cat
There's multiple heat shields all along the exhaust system. It's very common for all of them to start rattling over the life of the car. Unfortunately, you just gotta get under there and check one by one. Or, if you're brave, get the car on four jack stands and crawl underneath. Have a friend rev to approximately 3k, or wherever it makes the noise.
i have the same car and i had the problem, i found out that it was the shield on top of the catalytic converter. ripped it off and checkmate!

Make sure the entire exhaust is secured with the necessary springs bolts. Meaning don't only have one bolt on a flange that requires two bolts because it WILL rattle. It sounds like your bolts aren't tight or you are missing a few. Check that and get back and let us know what it was.
