hmm question about vtec ?
i heard contrasting sides and listened to vids and read up on vtec but to keep it short, i need some confirmation on a single question.. does vtec have nothing to do with giving you more HP ?
Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control = When VTEC engages a more agressive cam profile is used. ECU fuel, timing, and ignition maps are changed to correspond with the cam profile change. It increases horsepower, by allowing more fuel and air to be combusted. In less this is a trick question, i think there's your answer.
it does not give you more hp....to say but then again it does.. just as the post says above it just kicks in a more aggressive side of the engine...
vtec is not always engaged. on the orginal vtec engine the cams switch over by oil pressure feed. when vtec engages your horsepower increases. just having vtec doesn't give you "more" horsepower, but when it engages you do.

Work is defined as enrgy transferred from one object to another. 33,000lbs./min is the amount of work or "energy" produced. with a 1hp engine the work that that engine can produce over one minute of time 33,000lbs. of force. You ask, well where does this energy come from. Combustion is an exothermic reaction. An exothermic reaction produces heat and when confined to a specific space pressure. This heat and pressure is energy which drives the piston down causing the crankshaft to rotate and on down the assymbly line. Well, what does vtec have anything to do with this? Combustion requires (in this engine case) gasoline and oxygen. non-vtec has a set standard of how much fuel and air is combined into the combustion chamber. This is controlled by the ecu and cams. When vtec engages, the cams allow more air into the chamber. In addition more fuel is allowed into the chamber. Therefore, greater energy is produced by the "new" settings (controlled by the engagement of vtec), creating more power which in turn is more horsepower.

thats what im saying ... HP = units of watts = J/S.. this person has been saying "vtec doesn't generate HP noob. if you deavtivated vtec and just ran the aggressive profile. guess waht. the motor would make the same amount of hp"...
vtec broadens your power band. if you disabled vtec on the motor. it would make the same amount of horsepower but with a peaky powerband, but if you just ran the less aggressive cam it would be driveable with no topend, that's what they mean by the motors shortcomings. " thats what he said

vtec is not an item. you can't say "pass me the vtec over here." for lack of better words, it's a system of complementary parts acting together to create more power. if you want to get super stupid and nit picky the word vtec doesn't create more power, but it's the "chain of events that do."

It's like what you said, vtec creates a cleaner smoother power curve. it is meant for daily drivers to cruise without chugging gas, but if you want that extra kick, shoot the rpms up and let a more agressive cam profile engage.

it makes more in contrast to non-vtec. but it does not make more than itself (aggressive profile) The best way I can describe when a car is in VTEC vs. when it's not is this, VTEC allows for more hp than when not in VTEC... ? lol
what your friend is describing is probably something like a motor w/ VTECkillercams, in highprofile 100% of the time.. when compared to a VTEC motor it will run similarly as the car w/ stock cams in VTEC I believe. Which is the only scenario I can think of where there's only 1profile on the cams in the VTEC engine.. and the reason that these 1profile cam exist is mainly to stay within regulation for a certain race class. (im not in the track/drag scene yet, so i can't give any first-hand experience)

no he doesnt even drive a honda and hes in a honda forum trying to "teach" what vtec is... i already know what vtec is... itsjust that he blatantly soo admits it.. its actually scared me and shocked myself into thinking that i was wrong. i second guessed myself. as long as i can remember, i know vtec is not a thing but an event caused by high profile cams, rockers, combinations of things in the engine that causes a longer intake of oxygen into the engine... vtec has to do with HP increase..

i dont know, ive never really paid anyone to work on my car.
take someones labor as 50-55 an hour. Likely to be listed as 3-4 hour job. + the price of an alignment. I'd say its a decent deal.

usually the 00-01 s2k's dyno pretty low...they average about 190-200 stock where as the 02+ and ap2's dyno a good amount higher 210-220 stock...
