Default d series with some power

ok, so i've been doin some research on what i want to do for my car, right now i have a d15b7. It's got like 185k miles on it so i'm going to do an engine swap anyway. i think i want to swap to a d15b. Yes, i know there are way better swaps. for my first swap i want to keep it really really simple though. I am aware that a b series will be way faster, but that's not what i want to do right now. so besides turbo what are some good ways to get some good speed out of this? what kind of head would be good to use? stuff like that. I'm not lookin for an *** load of speed like 200 hp or anything. and eventually i will turbo it. but no answers like just save for a turbo, cause I am eventually. but what can i do before that to make it fast. if your only answer is that i gotta swap to something else cause sohc isn't possible to make fast, don't even post a response. I just want ideas on what will work without fi.

why would you get rid of a d15b head for anything else. its not worth it. about the only thing you can do to a d15b is cam it to get some power but you cant get 200 hp out of minor bolt ons. your gonna have to have some sort of FI to get that much hp. with a cam and a tune and some bolt ons you should be right around 150 hp maybe. and you would be suprised on how fast you can make the single slanmers. lol

search for "mini-me swap" - and honestly...even with all bolt on parts (intake, header, exhaust, intake manifold) and fully upgraded valve train - you'd probably be anywhere between 140-160hp at MOST...and that would probably be with a good tune as well. not really worth the money you'd pay to have it done. throw some bolt ons, lower the car and do whatever cosmetic work you need done and just drive it as is. i know you dont want to hear this..but just save up your cash for future goals (not gonna say for fi or swap..just your future goals)

ALSO: if you are absolutely content with spending that money to get 140-160hp then go for it. i loved my 2000 EX when i had just intake...so it could be a lot more fun to get that little more power out of it.

i searched for him but didn't get any results. can someone tell me a little about the "mini-me swap"? to be honest for right now 160hp would be good enough for me. I'm not lookin for a racer, i mean, this is the daily driver. I just would like to be able to show up my room mate with his stupid stock 01 ex. nothin spectacular. thanks for the info guys.

so your going to waist money on an intake and a header then go turbo? if you want 160hp then you will have to go internal. you basic bolt ons will not get you to that amount of hp.

he is right.once u go internal. it is not cheap. such as higher compression pistons.aggressive cam. ...valve.springs and retianers. and then u need a street tune or dyno tune. looking about $2000 .consider engine rebuild labor and $500 in dyno tune..is it really worth it ?

If you are getting a JDM D15b, then I would just focus on cosmetic, suspension, and interrior upgrades along with bolt ons. There is really no need for a "mini me" conversion with a perfectly good JDM D15b. It is one of the best single cam motors out

Well since you mentioned you want to swap in an sohc and later going turbo, you could find a d16z6, tear it down, give it a full rebuild and use some 9:1 forged pistons with TT rods and throw a zex 59300 cam and valvetrain with ARP headstuds, won't make much more power than stock like that, but when you go turbo, that thing will be ready for whatever you throw at it

no, i already have the header and intake. my room mate gave them to me from his old civic. i figured bolt ons aren't going to give me 160, i just want to know what to do to get there. what kind of options i have.

thanks 96hb, good stuff in there.

and the turbo is years down the road.

Turbo is the only way to make a D-series fast.

The only cost-effective way to make a D fast is to turbo it. I dont know why you're against it. Many people have made a lot of power without spending a ton of money on D's. In stock form they're good for about 220-240whp and with a simple Eagle/Vitara build, they're good up to about 400-450whp. Something to think about anyway...
