I have a 1987 Acura Legend, I am putting a new motor in it and am stuck as to which one fits. I wanted to put the 94 NSX motor in it but as im finding out i might as well buy an old NSX for that kind of money. So im thinkin i should put a c27a from a 96 Accourd and all i would have to change is the ECU. Does anyone have any other suggestions on a faster motor that will bolt right to the 2.5 c27 tranny. Also i want to know a good light weight flywheel to add while the motor and tranny are apart. Thay all seem the same some are just sooooooooo expensive. Im new to hondas so i could use all the advise i can get.

 

if you're going to be fabricating mounts anyways, why not go for a J35. I've seen them for sale on Ebay for less than $1000, complete running motor, there is actually some aftermarket support for it also, unlike the 2.7

 

unless you REALLY REALLY like your old legend its probably going to be cheaper and easier to move on. I doubt ANY of the newer stuff is bolt in and youd probably need:
custom Mounts
Custom Axles
Custom shift linkage
lots of wiring changes
probably a transmission to go w/ whatever engine you would get.

youre talking $$$$$$ to put a newer engine into your old Legend. Its a good looking car, I agree, but unless you really love it and its in mint condition other than the drivetrain, id move on.

But if you decide to go through with it, keep us updated and let us know how it turns out!

 

87 legend? is that a classic? either the name of this forum should be changed to pre-88 or threads started should be about "classics". not every pre 88 honda is a classic.

I would have to agree with funkmaster on this one. You should sell your legend and buy a 84-up civic and do a motor swap, which would be cheaper and then your possiblities for bolt-ons are endless. Prob be much cheaper in the long run too

anyways, i don't know if you'll have any luck here with a swap like that, although it does sound like fun and would be the first that i know of! i think it would be cool to see something like that done that no one else has done yet either. i wish i could help you more..

 

I know this thread is ancient but I would totally peg the first-gen USDM Legend as a "Honda Classic", at least in this country.

It was the first large car that the US ever got from Honda and it still seems to have been the high point in regards to reliability. Those cars are TANKS! This is actually the first thread I've ever seen about one losing an engine, lol.

I don't think it's any less a classic than a BB1 Prelude or a Zenki CRX, both of which I think also deserve the title.
