Wrong timing belt installed in my 1995 Del Sol VTEC?
Hello all,
I just got my timing belt installed, along with tensioner, seals, etc at a shop. I asked to get Honda parts installed. Just as a precaution I took all the bags of all the parts home, and in checking the bag for the timing belt I realized that the part number was P4400-PT2-004, which is the timing belt for the B16A2 which comes with the 1999 Civic SIs. My 1995 Del Sol has a B16A3, and the part number for that timing belt is P4400-PR3-004. First off Im kind of pissed off that they put in the timing belt for the a different car, I paid 600 for the Timing belt change.
Another thing I would like to mention was that when the belt was checked to see that the engine was in the tdc the center mark on the camshaft pulleys, was a little bit offset by about 1mm. A guy that was from a honda dealer double checked it and said it was fine, since one teeth over would have offset it too much.
Should I be worried about this, or are the belts exactly the same. Am I in any risk. Also is it worth complaining to the shop for them to put the P4400-PR3-004?

why, then, would honda have two DIFFERENT part #s?
Since you paid to have your car done, I would go back and have then do it right since it doesn't line up right.
Go raise hell.

Have them get re-adjust your cam timing. Does the car drive any different?
Honestly though, pick up a helms and some tools and diy next time. You spent about 500 more than necessary.
Its simple too.

Honda also has 2 different part numbers, hell 2 completely different looking main relays for 92-95 Civics and 96-00 Civics, but they still work with one another.
Different part number does not ALWAYS mean different/wrong parts.

no but Honda has different part numbers for a reason. Even if they might work the same initially, they are not exactly the same. Some bolts have different part #s because one has one more thread on it and is therefore different.
Im just saying, if the timing belt that is on is not the proper length and the cam sproket does not align, i would personally make sure i'd get the right belt and have it done proper, especially after spending 500$

its still a b16...
It won't matter because a B16A2 and a B16A3 have the same exact deck height and the same exact number of teeth on everything. So its nothing something to lose sleep over.

dude it's the same! who cares if it's a different part number. A b16 timing belt is a b16 timing belt.
And for the timing problem. The marks will line up perfectly if it is in time. If it's off then you need to take it back cause the mechanic screwed up. simple as that.

Just as an update to this thread and to put some closing to it, I didnt complain. Im not too worried since its for a B16, so its no big deal. Its not worth getting back in there and changing it.
The car drives fine, I just hear the engine a little different than I did before, buts its probably due to all the new parts. The mechanic test drove it again and we ran it at high RPMS and it pulls really good. The idling RPM is around 700, which is fine since the ideal idle speed is 750+- 50. So everything is good.
I would just recommend everyone to make sure you check each part when you take your car to a shop and make sure its right part number, the mistake could have been worse, you never know what theyre putting in there.
-Peace
