Setting the rev limmiter on ls/vtec
I am putting a gsr head on my car next week and I need to know what to set the rev limiter at. I have done some reading here and there about the rod bolts stretching around 7,000 rpm's. I don't have the money to reinforce my bottom end, and the head that's on my car is no good, so I am putting this thing on to drive it, and I don't care about rpm's and power, so would you guys think that 7,200 rpm's would be safe on a b18b with a 140,00 miles on the clock?
That's what I am thinking. I was told by so many people that it is safe to take it to 7,200, and a few said 7,400, but I don't want to risk my bottom end over a couple hundred rpm's you know? It's in a civic allready, so as long as I put it together right and tune it right, than it should be quick enough for me, even if I keep the rev limiter set at 7,000.
you could just mildly build the bottom end so it can hold up higher revving, therefore you could make more use of the vtec. but even with built bottom ends the ls block probably shouldnt even be revved past like 7800 so its a matter of how much you want to spend.
well here is my set upt..lsvtec b18a1 bottom with b16 head, both completely stock running on p72 gsr ecu, i beat the ***** out of it and i have taken then car up to 9,400rpm with my friends p28 chipped...rev it up to 8,300 with no problem...i have been driving it for 1 year now and still pullin...

I also have an ls/vtec stock b18b bottom with b16 head, type r cams, p73 ecu and a 75 shot of n2o and i shift 8000 but its seen about 8800. i have been driving this set up for just over a year now..............

true that they can, just not necessarily the safest especially when your goal is to not blow up the motor.
