coolant temp sensor
getting code p0117, coolant temp sensor on a 2000 civic si. i changed the one up by the vtec switch, still getting the code. there is another one on the back of the block, is there a way to tell if that one is bad or if i have a wiring problem? thanks.
another quick question, would this sensor keep me from setting timing correctly? i warmed the car up till the fan came on, turn offf the car, jumped the service connector, started it back up, then set the timing to the middle of the three marks. it was running fine yesterday, but this morning it really didn't want to start. was sputtering like the timing was off. it finally started, but barely touching the gas pedal would almost kill it. any ideas?
ok so the sensor is for sure causing the starting problems. now i just need to figure out which sensor it is, there ae three of them that i know of; by the vtec sensor, on the t-stat housing, and the back of the block under the intake. however, it could be wiring. i just unplugged all the snsors and made sure they were plugged in really good, then checked the codes, and the vtec code is back. i replaced that switch with the one from my a2 to get that code to go away, now it's back. so, now what? any help is much appreciated.
ok i'm dumb. the sensor on the back is probably the knock sensor, and i realized i had my the two plugs (vtec and ect) switched around. switched them back and al is well now. thanks for the help.

I just read your post. Thanks for the update. FWIW, my old Civic had 3 temp sensors. The one at the back of the block ran the radiator fan. There were two at the T-stat. One fed the temp guage, the other told the ECU the engine temp and could cause starting issues if it got flakey.
