Default HELP! Looking to start my first BOOSTED project! 2000 si

hey, well im all ready to buy a turbo kit for my 2000 civic si.

But befor i do, I wanted some advice from some more experence'd peeps!
My car runs great, has 140miles on it. But runs great, an strong. Good compression in all 4 chambers. I have stock ECU with a VAFC hooked up

Im only looking to make about 280whp to 300whp.

I have NO IDEA witch turbo kit to buy. The only turbo kit's i have looked at are e-bay kits. But, i have no idea if they are worth the money.

Questions:

What all will i need in a turbo kit to make it complete? injectors, waste gate, fuel pump?....ect...??

Should i have different pistions put in?

What kinda boost should i look at running?

Is it not worth the turbble of buying a used turbo kit?

How much of a pain is it to install?

I have done alot of b-series swaps for friends, an Did one motor build for my self last year. Bought the short block, an pr-3 head an assembled it. Ran great!

Im trying to keep the total price as nessary as possible. like between 1000 an 1500. But i can spend more

Please give me some idea's yo! I already have the money, i just dont know what all i need. Thanks for reading my post. Any help would be great!

i don't think 1500 is gonna happen. i'd plan on spending at least 2500, unless you find a good deal on used stuff.

You dont have to get the best turbo kit out their for the numbers, your best bet is to piece your kit up instead of buying one all at once. Just figure out everything you need and what you want out of your setup far as power and reliability and then go from their.

Take everyones advice and stay away from the generic eBay kits. I know some people that have had good luck with them, but if its your first time boosting a car I wouldn't recommend it, they're really hit or miss and to me its not worth the gamble.

Larger injectors (DSM injectors are a good low cost solution with a resistor box), 255lph fuel pump and some form of tuning. I wouldn't recommend using the VAFC. You can get a chipped P28 ECU and an OBD2 to OBD1 jumper harness and then have someone either street tune or dyno tune it. For your goals and since its a pretty common engine to boost you could probably be fine with a good street tune.

Not necessary for your power goals.

Depends on the size of the turbo you run.

It might take a little more work searching for parts/good deals.

You should be fine bolting everything up if you've done a bunch of swaps. As for tuning, you might want to look into having someone in your area give you a hand.

I'd recommend a set of DSM 450cc injectors, resistor box, chipped P28 and jumper harness.

There are plenty of turbochargers that will support your power goals, just search through the Forced Induction classifieds on here.

If you don't have access to fabrication tools (bandsaw, chopsaw, welder, etc) I'd recommend picking up a manifold, downpipe and intercooler tubing all from one place. It saves you a lot of headaches because you'll know everything will fit and its one less thing you'll have to worry about. RC Autoworks is a manifold fabricator that I'd recommend, he has a good reputation on here and will take care of you.

wow! thanks everyone for your input! My turbo kit is coming together well.

I bought my turbo kit from a friend who bought it at Ground Zero motor sports in Portland Oregon. It has never been used. It is a t3/t4 turbo, with 4'' down pipe for a good homie price . I pick up my 0bd2-obd1 jumper this weekend for 50 bucks! here is what i have put together for my kit

-t3/t4 turbo. tubonetics maybe? will post pics...
-Huge JDM SPORT intercooler w/piping
-ramhorn header
-tial waste gate
-hks knock-off BOV.....
-obd1 coversion harness
-obx vacuum box
-oil drain line kit
-moroso turbo set up oil pan

i am still trying to get my hands on a p28! i have some more questions,

*-do i have to have a boost controler to have a reliable build? pros/cons?

*-how do i prime my turbo with oil befor i start it?

*-what is the best way to hook up a boostgauge?

*-can someone give me a ideal check list, of things to check befor i start it?

*-oil feed line on the back of the block tips! so it wont leak!

*-what kind of exhust system should i use? (skunk2?hks? make my own streight pipe exhust?)

Once my car is put together i will start it up to pull it off the rack, an put it on a trailer. Then drive to a shop where it will be tuned/dyno'd.

thanks everyone for your info, it has all be WAY WAY helpfull!
