Calling all d-series owners with root style blowers...
Well I'm definitely going to be putting a blower on the car. For what I'm builing it for, I don't want a car that goes in a strait line. If I did, turbo lag really wouldn't bother me at all. I'm planing on keeping the d-series motor, (mine has stock internals with only 40k miles and running strong) until it gives out for whatever reason, at which point I'll rebuild it. Low end power is a must for me, since I will track the car on occasion.
I've pretty much narrowed it down to Jackson Racing (my friend has an account with a distributor who sells them), and I've seen one on a SI before and loved it.
My question is, who, if anyone, is running this blower or any roots style blower on here. Any pictures, videos, dyno graphs, etc are very welcomed. Furthermore, what kind of power are people getting? It seems like the safe area of hp is between 200-250 with a GREAT tune on the d-series.
Thanks for any input!

i dont have a blower on my D but i jus wanna say and i dont quote me but i THINK that 200-210 is about where the safe area ends i would think 250 is a little more than whats safe for a stock engine.
Get a properly sized turbo for the car and use that.
A blower is not the way to go man, not at all. The increased IAT's are hell on the motor, no real form of cooling a JRSC, they make instant boost but it doesn't really make any power.
A properly sized turbo for a motor will have little to no lag for what you are wanting to do. Sure it may take up to 2500-3000 rpm's to spool a 15g greddy turbo, but even an NA motor has a power band it functions best in with a particular set of cams. That's just the nature of things.
Not trying to talk you out of it, just not the best course of action to go with for reliable power.

i do like the feeling of s super charger instantaneous boost puts you in your seat the moment you hit the gas. but i love turbo. i like the feeling of hitting the gas and slowly being pushed into the seat. anyway, turbo ftw!
The safe range for a turbo setup on a stock D is about 220-240whp. The main drawback for a roots style blower on a stock engine is that the IATs have a tendency to spike since the SC is going to heat soak and there is no way to cool the incoming air charge. I would much rather see you turbo it, but if you're stuck on the idea of an SC, then be sure you watch those IATs and tune conservatively. An alcohol/water injection system might not be a bad investment
Thanks a lot for the input guys. I will also consider an appropriately sized turbo for forced induction. What do you guys think of that Greddy kit?
dude, I would seriously consider swapping internal before going boost. Alot of D-series have problems with weak bearings... and once you throw one... good luck trying to find a replacement crank. I had to have one cut... along with new internals.
