Default p72 ecu with B18c5 motor

I just installed a b18c5 and i currently cannot run the obd2b itr ecu because my car is obd2a. I do have a p72 ecu from my car. I have read that the mapping is almost the same. So is it ok for me to run this ecu or should i look at buying an obd2a p73?

it'll work, but vtec engagement will be too low and your car wont be running it's fullest potential. just get a obd2a to obd1 conversion and run a chipped p28 or something.

that's right, vtec engagement is 4500 on gsr? With a chipped obd1 ecu would i still be able to pass smog/emissions?

Thanks for the response.

I honestly never went to smog with a chipped ecu. But maybe if you put the exact same map for the itr into the p28, you may be able to pass smog.
