Do I need to run a knock sensor?

The cat has as much to do with a knock sensor as the muscles in your foot have to do with your anus. No relation.
You should run a knock sensor on a B16A because the stock ECU needs to see it. Also, it is a safety feature in case you have pre-ignition or advance your timing too much, or run shitty gas.
Why are you running a car without a cat, btw? Is it because you've decided not to breath air anymore and move to mars later?

Agreed. Unless you have a turbo'd car or a heavily modified NA motor, I'd keep the cat.

A high flow cat has less restriction than a 90 degree exhaust bend. Running no cat on a street car, especially considering the consequences of getting caught, is just plain stupid. Not to mention it makes your car sound (and smell) like a gas powered weedwacker.
The only information you've given is that the engine is a B16A. It would help to know what year the motor is and what kind of engine management is controlling it. In my case, running a knock sensor (on a 96 JDM D15B with an AEM EMS) allowed us to see that I was getting an occassional light knock under heavy loads. Rather than reducing the timing and sacrificing power for engine safety, we enabled and tuned a knock ignition retard. Considering that my SOHC engine makes more torque than a B16A, I'd say it was a good choice.

Really am glad you guys don't know me! It's a 1969 mini cooper with a Kit from Minitec. It is registered as a antique and doesn't have to go through emissions. But i'm really really green and don't know nothing about newer stuff. old cars only had a PVC valve and shoot i don't want to get into all that stuff. This kit came with a wiring harness mostly complete but i saw this sensor or something under the head directly above the oil filter. Most manuals don't show enough to help me with my mess. so, there was no definitive answer on this so far, and i just realized i had an error when pulling my wiring harness, got someone to fix it for me, the plug they put on it for the knock sensor isnt the same as mine..lol...soooo...
is it needed and will it mess stuff up? i would like a real answer, not some talk about why and why not to run a catalytic convertor...
my motor is a B18C, with a P73 ecu...
