Default What to replace while motors apart and getting built (ie bolts, gaskets, water pump)

Hey guys,

I tried to keep a list last night while I was taking the block and head apart, but oilly hands and paper don't mix well. Please help me continue my list (think through whats in the block and head) to make sure I re-assemble it all properly. So far I have:

-Big bolt missing from tranny support (bottom of motor)
-2 10mm bolts for that wireharness around oil pump (pulley)
-timing belt lower pulley (cracked teeth taking it off....oops!)
-crank bolt
-2 keyways (T-belt pulley and balancer)
-water pump & o-rings
-thermostat
-oil pickup tube gasket
-oil pan gasket
-valve cover gasket
-clutch bolts (What part # for ARP?)
-flywheel bolts (Part # for ARP?)
-assembly lube
-honda bond
-knock sensor (broke that getting **** off motor....oops!)

Ya gotta stop all these threads!!!
You're driving me nuts

Seems like this project is too big for you and maybe you should have it finished by someone who knows. Just saying...

haha well there isn't much tech stuff going on in HT or the ITR forum for that matter anymore, personally I enjoy them more than the typical picture, 'check this out' threads we always have....

I took the block and head apart...wasn't much to it, everyones gotta first time for everything. I mean after I get the motor back and re-assemble it, I'll have it back in and finished in one night.

I have help from a friend whos done this many times before...I just wanted other 'builders' thoughts if there were any other parts that we mighta just forgot when making a list since we couldn't update as we went.

ARP bottom end studs/bolts will run you @ $150, cheap insurance.
Sometimes you can get packages cheaper, like this...

I plan on taking pics for the rebuild...people can look at that and do it in reverse if they ever need to pull a motor and take it apart...I figured using clean parts would make it easier to document...

In for rebuild pics.
Check out Dave_B s rebuild thread, pics and good tips there.
Tips from me;
Don't reuse any gaskets.
Replace all oil seals.
Study a Helms and replace all "one-use" self locking fasteners, (ex. the spring bolt nuts at the cat. inlet.) Also any fasteners that are corroded or damaged.
Before assembly, chase threads in tapped holes and clean out dirt and shavings with compressed air.

Two problems I've seen on rebuilds, not replacing timing belt tensioner and reusing VTec gasket.
Oh yeah, NAPA for break in oil. Thet sell it labeled as such. When new, my B18 was slow to break in and I pro'lly coulda' run another change of breakin oil thru it.

well Im going to replace the tensioner....but I don't use the spring. I rip that little bastard out of there and then get a coat hanger and pull up pretty hard. Gets it a lot tighter, but not toooo tight haha
