hey guys, i picked up a pair of rockford t162c speakers for pretty cheap. They are 6.5's so i figured they'd replace stock 6.5's from honda. Well i was wrong, these speakers are not slim like the stock ones, they are almost an inch longer. at first i thought i could just cut part of the door panel to make them sit flush, but then i realized that the speakers might hit my window if it was down.
So now i don't know what to do, i saw some kick panels i could buy, but theyre expensive. I was wondering if anyone on here has run into this problem, and what did you do?

You'll need to build or buy a set of spacers. You will screw the spacers into the door panel, then mount the speakers to the spacers.
Unfortunately, that method won't be the prettiest, because you'll have gaps & spaces & holes exposed by not being able to reinstall the factory grilles.
If you want to put the grilles back on, buy a slimmer speaker.

Or you can trim down the grill on the backside. I put a one inch spacer on the doors of my 98 hatch, trimmed/grinded down the backside of the grills and a bit of the door panel itself and everything fit fine.

The stock speaker should be 2" deep the R/F T165C is 2.5" deep, 1/2" deeper then stock, are you sure you do not have 1/2" of depth behind the back of the speaker housing, before the window/window guide gets in the way????
Cut a hole in the back of the speaker housing big enough for the speakers magnet to fit through, if you can't get the full 1/2", make up the diff. with a spacer, you should have no problem fitting them and still be able to install the stock grill.

i think the stock speaker is little less than than 2" deep, I'm also afraid that if i cut out the plastic, that the holes for the new speaker aren't going to line up. The front of the rockford speaker seems a little bigger than stock
If you cut out the plastic housing on the door panel, add some 3/4" or 1" spacers and mount everything to the door instead of the door panel, you should not have any problems.
The speakers I fit in my 96 hatch were roughly 3.4"

Check the mounting hole diameter of the speaker, if it is a standard 6.5" or a "universal" 6.5" it will need a 5" diameter mounting hole, [same as the stock speaker] if it is an over-sized 6.5" speaker the mounting hole diameter will be bigger the 5" and will not fit the stock speaker housing and modifications will have to be made, the simplest being a spacer that has the proper mounting hole diameter, mount the spacer to the stock locations, [you may even be able to use the stock mounting screw holes] then mount the speaker to the spacer.
Or return the speakers and get a set of standard 6.5" speakers.

i bought the speakers of someone, so i can't return em. I might just cut the door panel, i tried usin a razor blade but that didn't work. I'll have to wait to go home and dremel them. I'd like to have them work, because i feel like they would sound awesome since they're the better rockford speakers, and since they're a little deeper, i feel like they might have more bass to em

i have a pioneer deck, I installed 6x9's and they're a lot louder than my stock 6x9s, they drown out my front speakers. So i would be expecting my front speakers to be louder than the stock ones to match my rears
