STX at Nationals: The Jacket
Some potential STX people are stating that they won't go all the way
to Nationals if they don't have a chance to win a jacket.
I was talking to a few local guys and we came up with an idea...
Everyone who runs in STX chips in maybe $10 and then the $$ would go
towards an STX jacket. (and then someone said the DFL person pays the
difference of what's not collected) :D
I know I'd be willing to chip in $15 at the event for a jacket.
Anyone else?

They aren't willing to go show support for "their" class?
In '99, STS ran as a supplemental class (i.e., no jacket) and that didn't stop Mark Allen from running the class. He won a "jacket" the previous year in G Stock (and maybe the year before in CS?) -- I don't know him personally but know he's VERY competitive. I'm sure he could have easily jumped ship and found a ride in a different class, but he stuck it out. As did several others who ran STS for most of the year.
FWIW, his wife also ran STS open after winning GSL the year before.
Not that I'm running STX, but if I was, I wouldn't throw in a single dime for a jacket to satisfy a person's ego.
It's not really about the jacket for me--I just wish they would make us a class and let us run outside of SM if we hit a certain number. The jacket is just icing on the cake.
Hell, I'd never wear the jacket anyways. What cracks me up is the folks who wear those heavy things when it is over 65 degrees to walk the course or something.
However, STS received a jacket last year and it wasn't an official class until the beginning of this year.

How many people have WRXs, Integra Type Rs, IS300s, and Mini Cooper Ss modded as to the number of people with every civic, all non-R integras, all non-Spec V Sentras, VWs, Subarus???
I think its just that simple. Those cars are "rare" compared to the rest.

Given that the WRX has been a huge sales success, and yes, the majority are either DS cars or in SM with turbo/boost upgrades.
But its still the first year of a class like this. Heck, STS has been around in "non-official" terms for at least 2 years now, and last year, I went to a number of events all over the state of Florida where I was the only one. This year, the same area is getting STS rosters of more than 10 at times, with some VERY talented drivers. I believe there are 6 of us locally that will be headed for Topeka this year.
Give it time, and I believe that STX will become quite large.
